New Widebody Honda Civic Type R For 2018 BTCC Is A True Boy Racer

Honda has just unveiled its all-new BTCC Civic Type R race car at Parcmotor Castellolí, in Spain.

The car was built over the winter by Team Dynamics, and is now being tested by the Halfords Yuasa Racing team in a raw-looking form – the official 2018 livery won’t be unveiled until March 22. Getting behind the wheel will be triple BTCC champion Matt Neal and Dan Cammish.

“The Honda Civic Type R has been one of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship’s most successful cars during its time in the series, and with the launch of the FK8 road car in 2017, it’s fantastic to see the next generation in full racing trim out on track for 2018,” stated Honda UK managing director, David Hodgetts.

Meanwhile, Halfords Yuasa Racing’s team manager, James Rodgers, feels that all the time spent in order to successfully transition to the new Civic Type R in the off-season has been worth it.

“The car provides an excellent platform to work with and we’re sure it’ll prove a potent package when it hits the track in anger at Brands Hatch. We’ve got a busy testing schedule in the lead up to that point, and we will be sure to hit the ground running when the season starts, in the best shape possible.”

The FK8 race car will greet the crowd during the opening round of this year’s BTCC campaign at Brands Hatch on April 8, but not before more track tests are completed, at Brands Hatch as well as Donington Park.

Does it come with a remote control, coz that’s what it looks like.

I feel like that rear wing is an improvement over the road going car. It looks very mean. Does anyone else always see LanEvo in the front hood?

  • jaykit

    Sinister looking.

  • Zandit75

Who would have thought that adding more fairings and bigger wings would make an improvement?!!!

Well at least they managed to cover up some of the ugly on this thing.

Can’t wait to see it in action! BTCC is so underrated.

I don’t think it is to be honest. Pretty much everyone knows the racing is great. I think it’s not as appealing as other series because the cars aren’t incredibly powerful.

  • Ohhh looks so tidy and good, I can’t wait for the next BTCC rounds.

  • Leconte Dave

    Sedan version?

  • Vassilis

    Now this looks good!

Can you imagine this actually was the body for the street car? Just like the Golf race cars, the street version are just aren’t good looking enough for the fire-breathing hot-hatches they’re supposed to me. If the street version of the type R looked like this I’d be selling things to go buy one immediately.

Fark, this looks nice. If only the road car looked like this.
