Maserati Appears To Tease The New Levante GTS Twin-Turbo V8 (Updated)

Maserati has released the first teaser image of what is believed to be the Levante GTS.

The company is keeping details under wraps but hinted a “new storm is coming” to the New York Auto Show. Maserati then added the Levante tag to its Twitter post.

The teaser image only provide a glimpse of the crossover but it reveals the high-performance model will have LED headlights and a unique front bumper with larger air intakes. We can see some stylish wheels which could be exclusive to the model.

While Maserati is playing coy, a company insider recently told us the automaker will use the show to introduce the Levante GTS and an even more powerful Levante Trofeo. Both models are expected to use the same twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that resides in the Quattroporte GTS.

While the engine produces 530 PS (390 kW) in the Quattroporte, the Levante GTS is expected to have an output of around 550 PS (404 kW). The Levante Trofeo is slated to be even more powerful as it could develop more than 600 PS (441 kW).

Besides featuring a V8 engine, both models will have an assortment of performance upgrades including a sport-tuned suspension and a high-performance braking system. The crossovers could also feature some minor interior tweaks to help distance them from the more mainstream Levante and Levante S.

Pricing remains unconfirmed but our insider suggested the GTS will start around $116,700 while the Trofeo will cost approximately $128,800. If those prices pan out, the models would straddle the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo which begins at $124,600.

Sadly, I predict (and Im always right, lol) this won’t do much at all to help the Levant overall, outside of an initial sales uptick. Why? The truck is still mostly ugly, the lights in particular look so cheap when beautiful lighting is so key to looking premium (see Audi) and the interior is a disaster compared with other $120k vehicles (again, see Audi & MB, BMW). Consumers are spoiled for choice. This is a brand without any recent reputation for quality nor engineering so they need to hit it out of the park, blow people away, outdo the MB’s, Audi’s, & BMW’s of the world for far less money in order to capture buyers’ attention. They must absolutely not put out even remotely marginal products like this Levant and all the depreciation bombs that are any late model Maserati’s.

    • I share some of your point, but for me being in UK is that they can’t reach regular customer with their customer service, those who but Maserati tend to be someone that knew about them. And don’t necessary cares about the customer service.

Is that a joke? The interior is a warmed over Chrysler under that leather. If the leather is the only reason to buy…………no wonder they’ve cut production by nearly 60% this year. This vehicle has neither the engineering prowess or the performance to make a dent in this class and the interior design screams Chrysler.
