Dodge did a pretty good job in reviving the Challenger, if you ask us, when it brought it back in 2008. And it made it that much more tempting when it slotted the Hellcat engine under the hood.
But if you prefer the original, and still want the big supercharged engine, this could be just the ticket.
Coming up for auction next month in Indianapolis is a 1970 Dodge Challenger that’s been thoroughly resto-modded. And in the process, the customizer shoehorned in the modern 6.2-liter supercharged V8.
Called the Super Cat, it packs all 707 horsepower that you’d expect to find in the modern Challenger SRT Hellcat. It also has a new radiator, and a Tremec six-speed with a pistol-grip shifter. The vintage machine rides on a new set of coilover shocks from RideTech, and packs a set of Wilwood disc brakes to keep all that muscle in check.
On the outside, it still looks mostly like any other vintage Challenger (that’s been all blacked out from roof to rims). Save, that is, for the modern headlights, Challenger T/A hood scoop, and rear spoiler. And the interior, though still highly original, is done up in quilted tan leather. But little of that betrays the seven-hundred-plus-horsepower secret it packs under the hood.

Without the benefit of a crystal ball, we couldn’t tell you how much it’ll sell for. But you can expect it’ll fetch a fair bit more than the $65,495 that Dodge charges for a new Challenger SRT Hellcat.
