1996 Lincoln Town Car Thinks It’s Iron Man’s Rolls Royce Phantom

Normally, we wouldn’t crack jokes about such a successful nameplate as the second-generation Town Car from Lincoln, but this particular 1996 example is simply asking for them.

Apparently someone thought that turning it into a Rolls-Royce Phantom would be a good idea. As if that’s not enough, the Iron Man red and gold color theme is also a bit hard to stomach. Tony Stark would definitely not approve.

Yet this car is currently listed for sale on Craigslist. In exchange for $7,995, you get the whole package, from the Phantom-wannabe body kit to the power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power seats, leather interior and 20-inch wheels.

The engine, a 4.6-liter V8, has 123,000 miles (197,949 km) on it, and when it was new, it sent 210 HP (213 PS) and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels with the help of a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The design of the body kit isn’t terrible from all angles, but the simple fact is that no one would ever mistake this for an actual Phantom. So while people might not be able to detect that there’s a Town Car underneath that flashy, weird-looking body kit as soon as they spot the car, they will surely realize that something’s terribly wrong with it.

yup, wasted time and wasted money also.

It’s interesting that someone went through the trouble of cutting out the stitched Lincoln emblem in the driver’s seat. Who has it? What did they do with it? Why?

  • kachuks

If Liberace was banging Iron Man, this would be their Duocar.

      lol

This is one of two things tying down Lincoln (and Cadillac to some extent) from being an object of design; the thinking that being overly brash can be equated with that of a status symbol.

The second is the obsessing and constant celebration of the past instead of showing the world what the future looks like.

    • Andrewthecarguy

Erm…you do realize this is a kit that somebody decided to do to a perfectly ok (even if not desirable) used Town Car right?

      • Status

Of course I know that, and my points still stand. Just look at what the car is trying to embody. Vulgar appearances built atop a mediocre car that (when it was in production) was touted as being ‘just a big car’ without any remarkable trait.

Secondly, why did you type ‘Erm’?

Unfortunately brash is what allot of people equate with status (ie Donald Trump’s NY apartment). “Constant celebration of the past” aka “tradition” because you shouldn’t give up a good thing just because it’s been around awhile. Should Cadillac give up it’s vertical tail light design?

That wouldn’t solve the problem of disposing of the carcass. Someone would still need to bury the body upstate somewhere.

What was the drug they were on when they came up with this abortion?

    • Andrewthecarguy

It’s an abomination that you used the word abortion to describe this thing 🙂

      • Paul

That makes it an abominably ugly abortion then.

There is allot of stuff you’re dealing with there. What is so cutting edge about the E400 over a CT6? From a design standpoint the Cadillac is a much better looking car. Regardless of that, cutting edge is not important. You’re forgetting that a cars function is to get your ass from one place to another, nothing else. I’d rather drive a ’57 Plymouth Sport Fury than a new E400. Status is for people that feel bad about who they are so they (in their own mind) demean others for what they own. So sad. And you can’t lump Rolls Royce in with Cadillac or Mercedes because their markets are totally different. For that matter, what cutting edge technology does RR have that Cadillac doesn’t? I’ll have to assume by your comments that you drive a brand new Tesla Model S.(?)
