Top Gear Takes New Rolls-Royce Phantom, £50k Gold Skis To The French Alps

If Rolls-Royce is kind enough to lend you a 2019 Phantom EWB with no mileage cap to adhere to, the possibilities become endless.

With that in mind, Top Gear chose to find out how the 1% live by taking the Rolls from Goodwood to Courchevel, all the way up the French Alps. Another one of their goals was to figure out if this car is at its best while you drive it, or with you relaxing out back.

The two reviewers argued both points of view, one saying that driving the Phantom is a delight, whether it’s on the motorway or even on twisty roads. It’s not that the car is sporty in any way, but more about the effortless nature of the drive.

Of course, sitting in the back can be just as rewarding, if not more, depending on your personal preferences. We guess most Phantom owners might not be at all excited about driving the car and probably prefer to relax and watch a movie while drinking champagne.

As for this particular EWB model, what makes it different than any other Phantom out there was the bespoke ski rack fitted at the back. In case you’ve noticed its “bling”, that’s because the rack holds a set of £50,000 ($68,000) skis with 24-karat gold bindings. That’s certainly one way to get your Bobby Axelrod on…

Powering the new Phantom is a twin-turbo 6.75-liter V12 with 571 PS (563 HP) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque. Italso comes with more than 130 kg (286 lbs) of sound insulation, two 12.3-inch displays and laser headlights, among others.
