Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to launch its first-ever product under the EQ sub-brand – the EQ C.

However, until lifting the curtain, the German manufacturer is focusing on the Concept EQ, which served as a preview for the battery-powered crossover, with a hilarious commercial.

The video is called ‘Goodbye Noise’ and it shows the study driven on an empty road, with the passenger making internal combustion engine-like noises. A few seconds later, the driver in the Concept EQ pulls over, exasperated by the strange sounds made by his fellow passenger, and leaves him on the side of the road.

Presented in front of the Paris Auto Show crowd almost two years ago, the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ has two electric motors that work together to deliver 408PS (402hp / 300kW) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. Naught to 100km/h (0-62mph) takes less than 5 seconds, and thanks to the li-ion battery, with a total capacity in excess of 70kWh, it has a claimed driving range of up to 500km (310mi), on a single charge.

The final production version of the zero-emission crossover, which will be called the Mercedes-Benz EQ C, is expected to offer a similar range in between charges.

Set to take on the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace, among others, it will be followed by other EQ-branded products, including the EQ A compact hatchback, EQ E and EQ S.
