Opel’s Exclusive individualization program will let you paint your new Insignia in any color you like, which sounds pretty posh for what is basically a mainstream model.

The new individualization program will offer buyers of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport, Sports Tourer and Country Tourer a choice between 15 special colors, including Dynamic Orange, Tornado Blue, Panther Black or Light Champagne, for an additional 2,500 euros in Germany.

However, the Opel Exclusive program also offers customers the option of having their Insignia in a bespoke paint, whether it’s “the color of their favorite tie or their horse box”, for the price of 5,900 euros in Germany, or £5,300 in the UK. Apart from the bespoke color buyers can also specify the paint finish: metallic, pearl effect, solid or tinted clear-varnish finish for additional depth.

All customers will have to do is hand over a color sample in the form of a picture, photo or color code to the local Opel dealer, and the process of building their unique Insignia can begin.

Following a dip into the immersion bath in the Rüsselsheim plant’s paint shop, where the base coat is applied, the body is temporarily removed from the regular production line. Opel Exclusive’s designated experts would have already developed the bespoke color and send the customer a color-swatch in the form of a 15 centimeter-long model car.

If the customer is satisfied, then around nine kilograms (19.8lbs) of the bespoke paint will be made and applied to the car’s body, mirror housings, roof antenna and other add-on parts. The precise color formula will be archived and the owner shall receive his personal ‘color ID’.
