Crashed Corvette Grand Sport With 15 Miles On The Odo Looking For A Home

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is a great sports car, but apparently it proved more than a handful for one owner.

The good news is that this 2019 Grand Sport only has 15 miles (24 km) on the clock – which practically makes it brand new. If it weren’t in such a sorry state, that is.

At the time of writing, Copart has it listed for sale. The highest bid stands at $20,600, which is not that low, given that it has a good chunk of its front end missing. Damages include the suspension on the left side, but the cabin appears to have stayed in one piece, which, along with the deployed airbags on both sides, makes us believe the occupants walked away, probably without any serious injuries.

Okay, so what happened to this ‘Vette? According to Jalopnik, who, in turn, are quoting Chris Uthe, it was involved in an incident in South Dakota a couple of months ago.

The Corvette, with dealer plates on it, hit a brick wall, in a rather embarrassing accident, thus ending its life in no time and putting a $65,000-$70,000 hole in someone’s pocket. Here’s hoping that it was at least insured.

Wow, the hood open sensor still works.

    • Liam Paul

      haha kinda ironic too

  • Six_Tymes

damn, orange metallic grand sport is my favorite corvette. I know it would be big bucks to fix this, but does anyone here have experience and care to guess as to how much? from low to high guess…

    • Axel Cortez

the bid price is too high…

You have 4 airbags that’s around $2k plus airbag module and sensors that’s around $1k
2 headlights if you are lucky and find used ones $1k for both, if new they seem like $+1k each one
      2 seatbelts around $500
      windshield around $1k
No idea if you have to change the whole dash for the passenger airbag (my bet you have) that is one expensive item probably around $2k
if you are lucky you can sew back the seats, but recommendation from factory is new ones thats big money.
front suspension $800 maybe go and upgrade while at it.
if it has carbon brakes $3k or more if it has steel one $1.5k
      front wheels $2k with tires
$4k in all components that I cannot asses from pictures (not including bodywork)
      body parts around $2k

I don’t live in US so no idea about labor, bodywork and paint which I guess if you want something good is going to cost dearly.

around 18k in parts if you are lucky and it doesn’t have carbon ceramic brakes, go cheap in some places like lights (used), repair seats….

      • Six_Tymes

Thanks! obviously you are “in the biz” I appreciate the detailed reply

      • Infinite1

Kudos to you Axel. Looks like you’re a pro at what you do.

      • Liam Paul

in other words its way too expensive to fix which is why it was totaled but I guess if someone is willing to buy it and take their time over years to fix it lol

        • Axel Cortez

usually what it happens is that individuals have several of these cars maybe just regular c7s in worse condition as donors so they get really destroyed ones cheap and use them to harvest parts, they are usually in the business of selling these cars outside of US where regulations are more open.

The list I made is from a car guy perspective of getting the GS “cheap” and restoring it as it should be done, my experience is I’ve done it before, not as a business just to save a nice car from bad hands

The subframe is f_cked. This car is worthless.

      • eb110americana

Subframes can be replaced, but the frame itself is surely tweaked. You can probably make this driveable again, but it will never be “good as new.” Agree, the asking price is too high unless they can part out the remains for more.

        • Six_Tymes

that makes sense also, bottom line, its toast

        • Bash

Even when you fix the sub-frame, it will only be as good as the maintenance facility done the job, not as good as it original state, and might not be able to reach its original performance figures.

      • Six_Tymes

        I appreciate the reply Brent

  • Dude

Has news been slow recently or is it just me?

  • Albert Marks

Kinda looks like you would have about $75,000.00 in a 60k car. Go to the dealer and buy a new one.

  • I wonder if this is still salvageable to become a race car…. or as always. Car furniture.

  • Blinka Bot

Chris #bisforbuild would know what to do with it

  • Infinite1

There will always be someone who will want a wrecked car, especially a Vette. Too much money to fix for my liking but it’ll find a new home
