Elon Musk Calls Thai Cave Rescue Diver A ‘Pedo Guy’ After Submarine Criticisms

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has accused Vernon Unsworth, one of the divers participating in the rescue of the 12 boys from a flooded Thai cave complex, of being a pedophile as a response to the diver’s criticisms on Musk’s contribution to the rescue effort.

Unsworth said in an interview with CNN that the custom-made submarine Musk personally delivered to the caves was pretty much worthless and that it was just a PR stunt.

“He can stick his submarine where it hurts,” Unsworth said during the interview. “It just had absolutely no chance of working. He had no conception of what the cave passage was like. The submarine, I believe, was about five-foot-six long, rigid, so it wouldn’t have gone round corners or round any obstacles.”

“It wouldn’t have made it the first 50 meters into the cave from the dive start point,” Unsworth added. “Just a PR stunt… He was asked to leave very quickly, and so he should have been.”

It didn’t take long for Musk to respond to Unsworth’s criticisms. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO referred to him as “British expat guy who lives in Thailand (sus)” and said that he never saw him during his time at the cave complex. Musk then argued that the water level was very low before things quickly derailed.

Musk said that he would prove the sub’s ability by sending it into the cave complex, ending his tweet by saying “Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it”.

When another Twitter user pointed out that Musk was “calling the guy who found the children a pedo”, the Tesla boss responded: “Bet ya a signed dollar it’s true.” These tweets have since been deleted.

According to CNN, Vernon Unsworth is the man who initially pinpointed where he thought the boys and their coach would be in the cave system, which he describes as his “second home”.  The team was found 200 meters away from that point. Unsworth spent 17 days in the caves helping with the rescue efforts.

Talking to the Guardian, Unsworth said that he was “astonished and very angry” at the baseless attack. “I believe he’s called me a pedophile,” he said. “I think people realise what sort of guy [Musk] is.”

When asked if he would consider taking legal action against Elon Musk, Unsworth said: “Yes, it’s not finished.”

  • Dude

Musk is a total embarrassment to his companies… a true PR disaster. He’s brining the perception of his operations (Tesla) down to circus-like levels, at best.

    • Dennis James

Well…that’s the problem with many geniuses. They lack diplomacy and emotional intelligence. However, I prefer this and true world progress over much political talking and not actually doing anything to move things further.

  • Rocket

Mr Thin-Skin is at it again. How can somebody so seemingly intelligent continue saying such idiotic things? The fanboys are going to have a difficult time defending this one.

    • TheHake

I agree. Calling someone a pedo without proof is very bad. That is crossing a line.

      • Dude

I can’t wait for Belltower to step in and Justify Musk’s actions today. He’s as Tesla fanboy as on can be.

        • TheBelltower

You really shouldn’t fixate so much.

          • Dude

You mean the way you do on Musk and Tesla? Good point.

          • TheBelltower

I comment on many different topics. And I am a Tesla fan. I have no issue with that. What’s your motivation… care to explain? Generally if you don’t care about something, you don’t waste words raging on it.

          • Dude

Oh, so today you’re not Mr Raging Tesla fanboy? Ok, got it.

          • TheBelltower

Give me time. I’ve only had one cup of coffee.

          • Dude

Fair enough… ill give you time. LOL

      • Jay

Just like the Pres of the U.S. Calls folks morons and says they have low intelligence. He pretty much name calls anyone who isn’t on his side, if he can get away with it why can’t Musk?

        • TheHake

Being a moron with low intelligence is not a crime.

          • Jay

No, but why do people have a problem when musk does the same thing the Pres does?

          • LJ

Calling someone a moron is different that calling them a pedophile.

          • Jay

He did say “pedo” though I’m sure he wasn’t referring to him being a pedometer. Name calling is still name calling at the end of the day so no need to be picky about who does it.

          • LJ

Not all name calling is the same.

          • Jay

So it’s okay for the pres of the U.S. to call people out of the name to mock them and to insult their intelligence?

          • LJ

            I didn’t say it was ok. I said there’s a difference.

          • Jay

            Im asking a question.

          • LJ

          • Perry F. Bruns

This person has a problem with both. It’s wrong no matter who does it.

          • Jay

They didn’t want to admit it as if the Pres does no wrong. Most of his supporters do that I was attempting to see which kind of supporter they were..

          • LJ

Your Caps Lock button is stuck.

        • Perry F. Bruns

          Answer: Neither one can.

          • Dudes

Debating politics on a car site. How fuqqing boring and useless is that???!!!

      • S3XY

Ya it’s “very bad”. The earth’s gravitational orbit came to a complete hault when Elon typed 4 characters while it was read and perceived negatively by millions of humans digitally via their smartphone and computer screens, disregarding what the pedo diver said first.

        Public outrage. Absolutely a travesty.

Such a terrible occurrence in modern time.

How will we move on from this?

Oh, Model 3’s cranking out at 5,000+ a week, SpaceX Crew Dragon prepping for its first flight, Boring Company produced bricks and exponentially increasing boring distance in LA tunnel

        How’s your life coming along?

        • TheHake

You should get a room with Elon.

    • S3XY

      You’re a pedo.

  • ZastavaFTW
  • TheBelltower

    Seriously Elon?

    • S3XY

      Get over it.

  • lagunas3ca

PR stunt or not, diver shouldn’t have run his mouth.

    • Matthew Boyd

Diver can say whatever the f#$% he wants. Musk shouldn’t have said anything. Giving bad press the light of day lets it grow to something bigger. Dudes book smart but has no common sense.

      • S3XY

If the diver can say whatever he wants Elon can say whatever he wants.

Also, stop crying like a little b**ch on here.

    • ▶️ ProtectOurHeritage ◀️

Diver is an expert and knows the caves well.

Musk is a egotistical loser who should really be putting more effort into his laughable EV project.

      • lagunas3ca

Then he should stick to cave diving where he belongs, and not criticize a billionaire for offering his help, regardless if it was effective or not.

        • Mr. EP9

Or maybe Elon should have stayed out of it. They had things under control and if they wanted his help they would have asked for it.

          • lagunas3ca

18 days and one casualty, they sure had it under control.

          • Mr. EP9

That casualty was a member of Thailand’s Navy Seal. He died making sure the boys had enough oxygen. That’s sad and unfortunate for the family but the rescue team got the boys and the coach out successfully. It still doesn’t change the fact that Elon’s help was not needed.

          • Perry F. Bruns

This may come as a shock to you, but cave diving is difficult and dangerous. That the best people available needed 18 days to rescue everyone–which, by the way, they did–speaks less to any lack of expertise and more to the difficulty of the situation.

But I’m SURE you could do soooooooo much better from the comfort of your armchair. You and Elon.

        • Perry F. Bruns

If I’m trying to save someone’s life and some grandstanding clown comes in and starts acting like a douchecanoe and getting in the way, criticism will the the least of the clown’s worries.

        • ▶️ ProtectOurHeritage ◀️

Musk is so self-centered he seems to care more about his laughable ideas like a submarine than actually rescuing the children. You seem to be just as bad. I’m hoping Musk gets sued.

  • kachuks

Just some nerd who made a lot of money but still has the frail ego of a juvenile boy. Very classless.

  • Matthew Daraei

I gradually going to think that all these Mars colonization ideas and plans coming out this clown and buffoon’s mouth are all a great hoax and farce.

  • Elon may be off base, however I am always very highly suspicious of men who travel or/and live in Thailand alone.

    • Dude

Because thats the only place on earth where prostitution occurs?

      • Thailand is notorious on on the global circuit for pedophilia and is rated #1 for that.

        • Dude

…therefore every unmarried male in Thailand is a Pedophile? This coming from someone that uses “69” for a site title. Ok, so using your same logic, how do you feel about other races?

        • Perry F. Bruns

Rated? Someone’s got a Yelp page for that?

    • Marty

Yes, why would a cave diver ever want to move to a place were there are awesome caves and awesome diving?

    • salamOOn

      wtf…?!!! are you serious?

    • ▶️ ProtectOurHeritage ◀️

You’re just as much of a retarded loser as Musk.

  • Marty

It’s totally possible to be a visionary entrepreneur and a complete bell-end at the same time.

    • ▶️ ProtectOurHeritage ◀️

That’s true and is why many people like Musk are not well liked.

  • “Musk personally delivered to the caves was pretty much worthless and that it was just a PR stunt.

“He can stick his submarine where it hurts,” Unsworth said during the interview. “It just had absolutely no chance of working. He had no conception of what the cave passage was like.”

Whilst obviously I wasn’t there, it was clear from the images and diagrams of the cave system and Elon’s own ‘testing facility’, it *just* wasn’t going to work. I do believe it was a PR stunt because it wouldn’t work in any situation, at any part of the cave.

    • Perry F. Bruns

And given that Musk’s solution was to penetrate the cave with something long, hard, and full of (a) seaman, who’s the real pedo here?

  • Antonio

Elon Musk is desperate. Tesla is sinking in debt…. Recent releases from tradicional car companies show that the game is over. At least the easy one. Of course tesla wont disapear. But perhaps Musk will disappear from Tesla.

He should be assigned in a hanger management program….

  • Matthew Boyd

How deep of a grave dose Musk want to dig for himself. Fookin tool.

    • Status

That cave in Thailand is quite deep.

  • Frase

Y’know it’s funny. This little carbuncle recently complained of how being called a billionaire “Devalues and denigrates people”. Well considering he has a £15 billion net worth, why doesn’t Unsworth do him a solid and sue some of those billions off his hands?

  • uS’gedlemba

“He can stick his submarine where it hurts,”

Musk ended up doing what this chap advised him to do: taking the submarine in sticking it up his ego which is seemingly very hurtful.

  • Paul

Musk made a prize ass out of himself.

  • Blanka Li

Do you use PayPal, with Elon Musk being a co-founder ? Do you benefit from the ISS research done using supplies transported by Musk’s company ?

Really, any man has his negative traits, but this doesn’t mean that we should dismiss his contribution to society. We all have our issues. I just think that Elon Musk’s qualities far outweigh his issues. And I’m not sure this is true for many of the people who hate him.

  • Status

You can’t make someone into a suspect by how they appear in an interview. Mob rule and trail by social media aren’t equal to a judicial conviction.

  • DudeOriginal1

Well he’s probably getting sued so good for him.

  • ▶️ ProtectOurHeritage ◀️

More and more evidence that Musk is an egomaniac that is used to getting his own way.
No wonder Tesla has a high staff turnover.

  • Mr. EP9

This is one of the reasons I don’t like Elon. He is so petty sometimes it’s ridiculous. He needs to shut up or get someone to keep him on a short leash. He is own worst enemy.

  • LeStori

Paedo (pedo for those who cannot spell) essentially means child so he just said child guy. We also have words paediatrician -a medical practitioner specializing in children .

What if he IS a pedo? ?

  • Perry F. Bruns

  • Six_Tymes

i agree. I was a fan of his, not anymore, not after this.
