Lexus RC F GT Spied With An Assortment Of Carbon Fiber Components

Lexus RC sales are trickling off, but the company is hoping to renew interest in the model by developing a range-topping RC F GT.

Previewed by the RC F GT concept, the production model will be a track-oriented coupe that is designed to slot between the standard RC F and the RC F GT3 race car. Given this mission, the car has been equipped with an assortment of carbon fiber components including a ventilated hood, roof and side skirt extensions.

Besides the carbon fiber goodies, the RC F GT has a revised grille with updated air ducts. Other notable changes include the addition of a large rear wing, a new rear bumper and a small diffuser.

Interestingly, the car has also been equipped with a modified front bumper and new headlights. We can also see restyled mirrors which echo those used on the LC 500. These changes suggest Lexus isn’t just working on the RC F GT, but a facelift for the entire RC lineup.

Lexus hasn’t said much about the RC F GT lately, but the concept competed at the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and weighed 800 lbs (362 kg) less than the standard model. This, unsurprisingly, was due to the extensive use of composite materials such as carbon fiber.

The familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine carried over, but it was outfitted with a high-performance exhaust system as well as improved cooling and lubrication systems. These changes allowed the engine to produce more than 467 hp (348 kW / 473 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque.

The RC F GT should also have additional changes including a retuned suspension with a sharper focus on handling. Likewise, the model could have a modified vehicle dynamics system.

Nice! I wonder how many of these Lexus will make

  • Bo Hanan

if the changes don’t include dropping 300lbs+ why bother with CF?

It’s all about the aesthetics bro. And by aesthetics I do of course my carbon fiber trim pieces on the interior.

    • SteersUright

Lets hope they are trying to do so. Still, won’t fix the dumb, awkward look of the thing.

    Whats the point??
Sales trailed off? Did they ever “trail-up”? This thing is moderately attractive. but a design fk-up with a huge exterior, bloated weight, tiny interior, and should look far better than it does (the whole point of a coupe!!). Just use the funds to carbon-fiber the crap outta the upcoming LC F, get it down some 500lbs, and you’d be investing in the far better car anyhow (admittedly also very overpriced). Truly wish Lexus offered a legitimate answer to the M2, M3, C63, AMG GT, S3, S4, S5, R8 category of cars. It will never be a true luxury brand until it shows it can make some undeniably desirable cars.

Thank god the headlights are getting a major redesign.

Why can’t Lexus make a proper sports saloon? I just wish they put some LFA-magic into these F-models. Or just do like the coreans: the new Kia Stinger and, especially, the Hyundai i30N are such great cars because Kia-Hyundai hired former BMW M engineers… They have the know-how, they have proven to be able to make great cars before, and you are stealing them from your competitors. Wake the F up (pun intended), Lexus!

“Wake the F up (pun intended), Lexus!”
      Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Made my day.
And I love the aggressiveness too.

Wing looks completely out of place. Other than that, I look forward to seeing the face lift.
