Holy Barn Finds, Batman! Lamborghini Countach Has Been Collecting Dust For 20 Years

Few things capture the imagination of car enthusiasts quite like barn finds. That’s because there’s something exciting and mysterious about hearing stories of prized exotics that have been put to pasture for decades.

This particular barn find, coming from the interesting world of Reddit, involves a 1981 Lamborghini Countach with a unique story.

Reddit user ‘eriegin’ says that this white Countach belongs to his grandmother and has been sitting in a garage and collecting dust for roughly 20 years. What’s more, this isn’t an ordinary Countach.

The images posted on Reddit suggest that we are looking at a Countach 500S, one of just 321 examples built. The car is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V12, and while the Redditor claims that it is in poor condition, it could easily be worth $300,000 – or, if restored, more than $500,000.

The Reddit user says that the Countach was purchased by his late grandfather in 1989.

“My late grandpa bought it for his exotic car rental business in 1989, but after insurance costs became too high for him to operate the company, he kept the car (and many others including the Ferrari 308 in front of the Lambo) outside/in leaky garages for 20+ years instead of selling them. Don’t ask me why, I have no clue,” he wrote.

While it’s sad to see a car as iconic as the Countach being locked up for so long, it’s refreshing to see it coming out to the real world again.

How often can you find someone say “that’s my grandmas Countach 500 S”. I’ll never be that cool.

  • Mr. EP9

What a nice find. I also spy what appears to be a 308 GTS as well.

“(and many others including the Ferrari 308 in front of the Lambo)”. Your spy skills are better than your reading skills.

Yeah, that’s nice. Now run along.

Appears to be an MG (possibly a TA), between the Lambo and the wall.

    It’s a 5000S, not 500S 🙂

I wonder what the miles are on the odo. Needs a lot of work, and it also needs the iconic rear spoiler added.

    • Actually if the car were specified from the factory without the spoiler, it would increase the value because it’s rarer.

“in leaky garages for 20+ years instead of selling them”

owners that let cars intentionally rot are mentally disturbed, they are same as hoarders who hoard random things, boxes of garbage or whatever. in this case they had money to buy exotics and let them turn to rust, sick minded.

    • I know sometimes it’s hard to understand but sometimes people had an attachment to the cars. To the point that they prefer to keep it to themselves rather than put it on, It’s very common and while the cars might suffers, at least we know that the owners didn’t do it intentionally.

I really like the piece of wood being used as a steering wheel! Maybe removing the steering wheel was grandpa’s theft prevention method.

    • Good observation.

You look in the earlier photos it was still there they took it out. Sometime during the removal.

  • Love that garage Countach, 308 GTS and an MG. I hope that they can be restored to the road again.

This guy deserves a punch in the nose. He should remove all of the newspapers and other garbage from the cars, and deal with the cancerous rust that is eating away at the 308. I’m sure that this dork is too busy playing video games, eating chips and masturbating all day in his mother’s basement to be bothered with such things. But if he were a real man he would help his grandmother preserve these cars so that they retain their value.

I wonder if people would reach the same conclusion about you and your solitary pastimes?

Barn find? it’s more like the dude didn’t visit his grandparents for 20 years.

This thing is absolutely trashed, it is going to take a lot to restore the vehicle. It looks like its been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for about 10 of those 20 years….
