The McLaren Senna isn’t the first car you’d think of for taking on a 1500 mile (2414 km) road trip. However, Top Gear Magazine decided to test out the grand touring abilities of Woking’s latest hypercar, and it makes for an epic video.

The Senna in question is painted in a stunning shade of blue and comes complete with a selection of carbon fiber and bright orange accents, including the brake calipers. On the street, it is one of the most over-the-top production vehicles on the market and offers truly frightening performance.

Of course, it is not just on twisty mountain roads where the Senna shines. Thanks to McLaren’s trick suspension that premiered on the MP4-12C, the Senna has a reasonably ride, making it usable on most road surfaces. However, the seats are hard, there’s a lot of wind noise and the sticky tires can be very loud.

Top Gear’s road trip saw the Senna taken from Estoril all the way to Monaco. On the way, the car passed through stunning mountain passes, went to a race track and dominated some hefty highway miles.

The insane powertrain is certainly one of the most appealing aspects of the Senna. Like the 720S, it is a mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 but thanks to some modifications, now produces 789 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. To most bystanders who see the Senna on public roads, however, it is the crazy aero parts that make it stand out.

Nevertheless, however comfortable and fast the Senna might be, the sad truth is that the vast majority of owners will never experience such a trip; in fact, a good deal will probably store their vehicles and only drive them occasionally, waiting for the right moment to offload them and make a nice profit. But that’s their loss…
