There Can Be Only ONE: Mercedes-AMG Allegedly Drops ‘Project’ From Hypercar’s Name

In between continuing the development of their hypercar and making bold statements in reference to what it can do, Mercedes-AMG has reportedly decided to change the production car’s name.

Discovered by TheSupercarBlog, the high-performance model’s new name drops the ‘Project’ moniker and will be apparently known as the Mercedes-AMG ONE, with the latter written in uppercase letters.

Since Mercedes-AMG themselves referred to the hypercar as the ‘Project ONE’ only last week, when they revealed a prototype testing, we’ll take this new information with a grain of salt for now.

Meanwhile, the German car brand invited ONE buyers to a private event in Munich, with a formal dinner preceded by closer viewings of the hypercar. The customers also got to configure their hypercar, which will be made in just 275 examples – and all are already spoken for.

The initial starting price of the Mercedes-AMG ONE is €2.27 million, which equals to $2,67 million at the current exchange rates. The first units are expected to be delivered in 2019, and production will take place in the United Kingdom.

So far, we know that Mercedes-AMG’s hypercar combines four electric motors with a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 that’s derived from their Formula 1 program. Official specs have yet to be released, but the powertrain is said to churn out a combined 1,000-1,100 horsepower, thus rocketing the ONE from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in about 2.5 seconds.

I’d dissagree with you, since the car is based on the Formula ONE,I think that calling it simply “ONE” makes a lot of sense. That’s just my two cents tho

It makes sense. But i think it’s horrible, we’re back to 1890s names for cars

May cause confusion as the One:1 is often abbreviated as the One, but I like it.

Was that really neccessary? Also, I have heard people call it the ‘One’ quite a lot thanks I do speak as a witness.

    • Well I mean for people who know cars, they would say “one-to-one”.

  • Well whatever it called (kinda boring, but I’ll give it a pass) I can’t wait to see the final product.
