The MiniBig Is A Small Camper Trailer That Turns Into A Tiny Boat

From the land of strange but mostly cute vehicles, aka Japan, comes this – the MiniBig amphibious camper trailer.

You can hitch it to your car, drive to the nearest lake and use it as a boat while you’re at it. That’s because the MiniBig can be fitted with an outboard engine, although for that you’ll need a small ship maneuvering license, according to Japanese regulations.

We believe getting one is totally worth the hassle: imagine “parking” on water then sailing off as conventional camper van owners look in disbelief. The company that makes the MiniBig says it has a maximum capacity of three people, all of which can even sleep onboard thanks to the interior’s configurable layout.

Despite that, it has compact exterior dimensions, making it quite easy to maneuver when hitched to a car. It’s 4,390-mm (14.4-ft) long, 1,640-mm (5.38-ft) wide and 1,930-mm (6.33-ft) high. What’s not to like, huh?

Well, that might be the pricing. The MiniBig starts at ¥2,462,400, which is the equivalent of $22,090. And if you really want one, you should think about setting some more dough aside for import expenses, as it is currently on sale only in Japan.

Cool idea, but painfully slow in the water. I’d rather just have it as a caming trailer if it couldn’t be made to go any faster in the water. Bow looks really low too, any wake from a passing boat will end up inside your “living room”.

then you ll have your own sea water in your room and no need any cyclone, flood or tsunami.

A fraction of the complication of a car, for the price of a car.

    I’m sure they’ll sell dozens.
