2019 Mitsubishi D:5 Delica Is A Boldly Styled, Japan-Only Minivan

The sixth generation of the Delica people carrier has just been revealed by Mitsubishi.

Previewed by last year’s Delica Concept, the D:5 Delica is essentially a mashup between a minivan and an SUV, and is believed to use the same chassis as the Outlander.

It has a generous ground clearance and a very bold exterior design, with Mitsubishi’s signature grille at the front, flanked by a couple of slim headlights and large, vertical LED DRLs.

Opening the door reveals a very spacious cabin that can haul up to six passengers, on three rows of seats. There’s a tablet-like infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard, between the central air vents, with the controls for the climate system being positioned under the screen.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.2-liter diesel engine that puts out 172 PS (170 hp / 127 kW) and 392 Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque, which are directed to both axles via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The AWD system allows drivers to select between 2WD, 4WD and Lock.

The new Mitsubishi D:5 Delica is aimed at the local market, where it will be available in two versions, called simply Delica D:5 and Urban Gear. The latter is a better equipped model, adding some exterior updates, new wheels and extra gear inside.

      Me too.

        I add to this.

But I feel the interior is dated tho…save for the good sized screen.

      • Craig

It is. A bit. A least there the dash meets the doors.

This does not appear to be entirely new, but a make-over of the current 5th generation “full-size” Delcia, which is based on the long-in-tooth GS Platform (Remember the Dodge Calibre? Ya, that old). I liked the 5th Gen, this, not so much.

3rd and 4th Gens are quite popular imports into Canada, especially in the western provinces.

Look like if Land Rover make mpv prototype

Ugly front and back, but the seat seems nice I guess. Anyway who cares since it’s only for Japan.

  • salamOOn

its all about the functionality, so i dont care about the looks.

  • Mr. EP9

I’ll never see one of these on the road and yet I’d happily stick with the older Delica models.

  • Dennis Scipio

I think it looks okay. not perfect, but then again this is the Facelifted version of the D:5.

It’s ugly…and it’s not electric.( urban family movers should be electric)

    • Eythan Aldrich

too early to say that on this one fool….

  • Paul

Boldly styled is being nice. This thing is uglier than sin.

  • Mind Synthetic

regardless of looks they will sell thousands, guarantied.
