Extraordinary ‘Youngtimers’ Collection Is Chris Harris’ Dream Garage

As a man who frequently drives world-beating hypercars and dabbles in GT3 racing at places like the Nurburgring, Top Gear’s Chris Harris could be completely uninterested in any vehicle not worth half a million bucks. However, as the video below shows, that’s not the case.

Harris was recently invited by RM Sotheby’s to check out the auction house’s ‘Youngtimers’ collection, set to cross the auction block in a few days.

The collection isn’t filled with expensive supercars but is instead an orgy of BMW M vehicles, Alpinas, AMGs, Aston Martins, Porsches and others from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. It is a dream garage for Harris.

According to him, cars from these eras are his absolute favorites. We don’t blame him, particularly with the likes of classic Alpina B7s from the ’80s and ’90s. The collection also includes a plethora of pristine BMW M cars, including a handful of original 8-Series models which still look absolutely fantastic. There’s even a pair of Aston Martin Lagondas, one of which is sitting on a tiny set of 15-inch wheels with 255/65 tires. It may look a little strange, but it’s certainly eye-catching and bound to fetch some serious bids during auction.

Other highlights of the RM Sotheby’s collection include a Mercedes-Benz SL70 AMG. For those that don’t know, the 7.0-liter V12 of the SL70 became the basis for the Pagani Zonda’s iconic powertrain. As the video progresses, you’re eyes will be blessed with the sight of various Datsun 280Zs, classic Bentleys, and… a low-mileage Renault 5 Turbo 2.

Here comes the hard part: if you could pick just one car from this collection, what would it be?

  • Bash

Sure that SL70 is fantastic, but I also got my eyes on the Lagonda… I don’t know, it’s really hard to pick only one!

  • Not sure if it was lost in the editing, but just to walk by those two Ferraris…

Anyway, all of those cars are beyond cool, but sporty pointy two-door things would be my first pick, so, Lotus and Japanese cars… and those Ferraris.

    • Salih Ahzem

They seem like 400i’s which are one of the “less desirable” Ferrari’s let’s say…

      • 365 GT4 2+2, 400 or 412, I couldn’t really tell… I love those.

Oddballs in Ferrari history, GT’s with three box design, Ferraris with neckties.
I was a bit disappointed when Ferrari decided to make a hatchback (FF) instead of making a modern 412…

Drop me off with 3 bags of groceries and pick me up in a week.

Europe is so lucky they didn’t have to deal with American cars. You won’t see anyone touring warehouses to see 95 Buicks and Cadies

    • TheBelltower

The Buick Century was disposable garbage. But in spite of that, current Buicks are even less interesting than the ones from the 80s and 90s. Grand Nationals are quite coveted, and Reatta convertibles are pretty cool in their own cocaine haze 1980’s way. No Buick from today will ever be worth the bother keeping pristine or restoring. Buicks today are just commodities designed for the Chinese.

    Carporn at it’s finest.
    That is one incredulous collection.

    • Salih Ahzem

Carscoops forgot to add NSFW to the title of the story…

Porsche 928…the official “security detail” escort car for the Cocaine Cowboys of Miami from the late 80’s to the early 90’s. Loved those cars.

  • StrangerGP

My reaction would’ve been the same.

In my opinion Chris lives in the 80s and 90s, we should find a time machine and send him back, he would be really happy, I am sorry for him, he’s been suffering, he had to take over Top-gear from Jeremy, May&Hammond.
But anyway, Chis Harris has been labeled as an IDIOT by a US journalist, and I think that guy was right.
