A New York Police Department officer got more than he bargained for over the weekend after crashing a confiscated dirtbike in Harlem, New York City.

The New York Post reports that local police discovered an abandoned dirtbike at an intersection shortly after someone had been seen riding it recklessly through traffic. Officers needed to transport it to the nearby 32nd Precinct station house and Officer Brian Hinton thought he could safely do just that. As it turns out, he couldn’t.

Footage from the scene shows Hinton unintentionally performing a little wheelie as soon as he sets off. He then proceeds to drive through an intersection with a red light with seemingly no control over the dirtbike. A vehicle driving through the intersection is forced to slam on its brakes as Hinton rides through. Moments later, he crashes and the bike slides into a Cadillac on the other side of the intersection.

A number of locals can be heard screaming at the officer after his crash. One man repeatedly shouts “Hell, yeah!” in jubilation at seeing the NYPD member slam into the road. Many others can be heard laughing at the crash while fellow NYPD officers approach the scene.

It is reported that Hinton injured his shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment before being released.

According to a police source, it is common for officers to drive confiscated vehicles back to local station houses: “That’s how you bring the bikes back if you don’t have a trailer to put them on. You can’t leave them in the street.”

Before Hinton gets back on a bike, however, he could use a little training…
