Strange Rover: Honda Element Owner Loves British Luxury SUV’s… Badges

Remember the Honda Element? It was a seriously quirky and boxy crossover that served as a predecessor to the HR-V. Its styling was meant to be inspired by lifeguard stations, while its bi-parting doors provided wide access into the cabin, eliminating the need for B-pillars.

For all of its practical advantages, the Element still couldn’t be further from a luxury SUV like the Range Rover; although this didn’t hinder the owner of this particular example to try and emulate the British luxury SUV.

The thing is, we can’t even call this a poor man’s Range Rover, because it’s not a replica, there’s no body kit involved, and with that ridiculous ground clearance would never be able to handle rough terrain. From a rear 3/4 angle, mods seem to consist of large alloy wheels, Range Rover-like rectangular exhaust tips and massive ‘Range Rover’ lettering on the tailgate, to go with some more re-branding on the license plate.

A stock Element is powered by a 2.4-liter petrol four rated at 166 HP (168 PS) and 160 lb-ft (217 Nm) of torque, and there’s no indication that this RR wannabe packs anything else. Not that this would have prevented this image ending up on Reddit for people to make fun of.

By the way, if you’re curious to see a Honda Element that’s actually pretty cool, check out this rear-wheel drive, 500 HP Element-D that’s powered by a 3.2-liter turbocharged V6 unit. Now that’s something no one would dare make fun of, but would rather have fun in.

I would never do this but I like it. 10 points for innovation!

Honda Element is an all time classic vehicle… criminal that it was ignored and mistreated instead of updated and marketed by Honda. It’s a beautiful, practical work of art.

    • Benjamin B.

I agree. The Element is a future classic.

    • Cuthbert

We have an Element new from 2006. For dogs, plants and garden supplies and trips to Costco there’s nothing that comes close. 145,000 miles and no car payment for the past 10 years. Laugh away.

This happens to be my brothers Honda. He did it just for fun. He also has one of the nicest H1’s ever seen. And his 95 impala S.S. took #1 in the nation with over a 150 thousand in the motor alone not to mention everything else. He’s also on a Netflix show called fastest car.

    • alex.remsen

can you post some pictures of his Impala? please

  • Benjamin B.

He ruined his Element. I always liked these MPVs. Most people don’t know this, but Honda offered a supercharged four cylinder in the Element. We have a two box body style that isn’t a crossover SUV (or is it? I don’t know); a supercharged engine; a manual transmission; and an all wheel drive system. What’s not to like? Shame the guy decided he’d rather ruin his car than be proud of it.

  • StrangerGP

Land Rover could’ve easily sold this as an MPV’s if only the market trends were different and vans were still a thing.
