Range Rover Sport Rear-Ended By Cammer After Brake Checking Him

Brake checking someone is a very bad idea in an era where dashcams and smartphones are basically everywhere and make it very easy to prove intent.

Sure, in the past it was something insurance scammers used to do to make money, but nowadays the game has moved on. The driver of the Range Rover Sport in the following video shot in Denver, Colorado probably didn’t do this for insurance money but out of road rage.

Either way, their decision to cut the cammer off and brake check them was not the brightest idea. However, if you look closely from the beginning, you can see that the cammer slowed down at one point for no obvious reason, despite the fact that they were on the fast lane.

Presumably, that enraged the Range Rover driver who decided to teach the other driver a lesson. From the video description, which appears to have been written by the cammer, we learn some details that shed more light on the incident.

Guy was tailgating me the entire way from the intersection. Slowed down so he would just go around me and he decided to cut me off and brake check me. Gave me no room to actually stop which resulted in me rear-ending him. He was cited by DPD,” the video uploader posted.

If that’s really how things went down, we’re a bit puzzled by the cammer’s decision to slow down in the fast lane. Why didn’t they move to the right lane if they really wanted to let the Range Rover pass? Seems like yet another totally unnecessary road rage incident resulting in a crash that could have been avoided if both drivers remained cool.

  • Bash

I witness so many of those break checking/road rage acts, its crazy and both drivers are wrong no matter how you look at it.

  • RDS Alphard

I don’t understand why cammer slow down on fast lane, why not move over to slow lane before slow down?

    • Thunderbolt

May be the cammer was looking to see if he or she should make a left turn, at 0:12 sec

      • Knotmyrealname

If the cammer wanted to make a left turn, then they would have or should have had their indicator on and the Rangie, I’m sure, would’ve just gone around.
And sorry, freeway or not, on a two lane road you keep to the right (in LHD countries).

        • ChrisInIL

“And sorry, freeway or not, on a two lane road you keep to the right (in LHD countries).”

Except where state laws allow cars to drive in both lanes, such as in Colorado, where this occurred.

There is no US federal law that requires “keepig to the right”. That’s just common courtesy.

          • Knotmyrealname

Yes, common courtesy or law, you should keep to the slower lane. It can upset people, as we saw….

  • Six_Tymes

I always wonder when seeing videos like these what occurred Before

  • Craig

It’s an odd thing to threaten someone with. “I dare you! I dare you to hit MY car!” Fact is… I would never trust anyone to brake well enough TO avoid me. I’ll stick with obscenities [And of course hand grenades!] to settle my differences!

  • carsmofo

Road rage would nearly cease to exist if people would learn to treat the fast lanes as passing lanes.

    • Dark Rebel

The fast lane rule typically only applies to interstates, highways, or autobahns. This is a regular city avenue

    Read the video description.

    • Robert Lewandowski

Is it legal to drive in the left lane without passing?

    • Knotmyrealname

If he wanted the douche in the Rangie to pass, then simply move over to the right!

  • salamOOn

“Slowed down so he would just go around me”

    how stupid is that?!!!

not slowed down, but almost stopped! in the left lane! im pretty sure RR dude thought its a provocation.
and i thing it was. if you want somebody to overtake you, move to the right!

  • tseventy6

Is the left lane a fast lane (in the U.S.) if it’s not a highway?
it’s not a fast lane in Spain as long as it’s not a highway.

    • Dylan Wentworth

There is no designated “fast lane”. As the laws are usually written, you keep right unless passing.

Frankly, i don’t get what happened here. It seems to me that one camps on the fast lane driving extremely slow while another could simply pass him on the right and keep living his day and instead decides to crash two cars to apparently teach the other something he won’t learn.

Denver metro area infrastructure was designed for 1 million, there are 3.1 million as of 2018, 3.3 by 2020. I see this everyday (without an accident). Both are at fault, Rover guy should have went around, Camera guy is probably 1 of the 1000’s of self-proclaimed traffic enforcement drivers in this state.

From looking at this video, I will guess the following, ; consistently drives 5 mph under the posted speed, has to maintain several hundred feet of space in front (and back) of him at all times regardless of traffic conditions, disregards the meaning of a solid or dashed line, fails to use turn signals, is generally oblivious to anyone else around him, accelerates from a stop like he is a hypermiling, roundabouts are really confusing, does not fully understand what yield means and merges onto freeways at 10mph under the posted speed limit…

    CO Rev Stat § 42-4-1001 (2017)

The driver in the rear should get a ticket.

Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

The d-bag in the rover should get a ticket, go to jail and have their license revoked

    CO Rev Stat § 42-4-1401 (2017)

    (1) A person who drives a motor vehicle, bicycle, electrical assisted bicycle, or low-power scooter in such a manner as to indicate either a wanton or a willful disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. A person convicted of reckless driving of a bicycle or electrical assisted bicycle shall not be subject to the provisions of section 42-2-127.

Where I live, I pass using whatever lane is available. Must be nice to have the luxury of empty lanes…

  • KidRed

Someone tailgates you- 1) are in the left lane? If yes, then use blinker and move over into the right lane. 2) If you’re already in the right lane, then verify your speed to make sure you’re doing the speed limit and see if there’s a right turn coming up as maybe they are anticipating the turn. If you are doing the speed limit and there’s no right turn and they continue to tailgate you, then just take your foot off of the accelerator, do NOT touch, tap or brake check them because it’s dangerous.

  • Paul

The idiot in the car would have been far better of to have just moved into the other lane and let the Range Rover by, and from what it looks like there was plenty of space to get in the other lane., Then he wouldn’t have had a chance to fester anger and do this. But….the reality of it is that there is fault in both parties actions.
