A number of states in the U.S. have legalized marijuana, but Virginia isn’t one of them. That brings us to the bizarre story of parking job gone hilariously wrong.

As noted by NBC12, the Richmond Police Department recently made a Facebook post detailing what has to be one of the stupidest mistakes ever made by a criminal.

Saying they “can’t make this stuff up,” the police department revealed someone with marijuana in their car just happened to park in the same lot where they train and test their K-9 unit. If this wasn’t bad enough, the unwitting driver “parked right next to our decoy cars that are used for training.”

He might have as well put a sign announcing his possession of illegal substances. As fate would have it, one of the department’s dogs eventually entered the area and alerted officers to the presence of drugs. This probably caught them off guard as the vehicle wasn’t one of their decoys, even though it happened to be in their parking lot.

Unsurprisingly, police decided to investigate and soon discovered the dog was correct and there was indeed marijuana in the vehicle. The owner of the car was arrested shortly thereafter on a warrant out of Chesterfield County.

While the department believes the man parked in their lot by mistake, they said “it probably isn’t the best idea to park your car that has marijuana in it near a drug dog detection training center.” That’s some pretty sound advice, but it apparently came too late for the unlucky man who practically turned himself in.

Now, there’s a joke (or 10) somewhere around here, but we’ll refrain; let’s just say that it definitely wasn’t his lucky day…
