Ford has been teasing their Mustang-inspired electric crossover for what feels like an eternity, but we might finally get our first look at the model later this year.

According to Autocar, the Blue Oval will introduce a concept before the year is out. The publication didn’t go into specifics, but suggested the company could also reveal the model’s name at the same time.

Ford hinted at the possibility of calling the model the Mach 1, but quickly backtracked following an uproar from Mustang fans who were furious about the name being applied to an electric crossover. Ford has since reverted to calling the model the “Mustang-inspired fully-electric performance utility” but that’s a mouthful and, thankfully, only temporary.

While the company still hasn’t confirmed the crossover’s name, Ford has filed trademarks for the “Mach E,” “Mach-E” and “Mustang Mach-E” monikers. This suggests the electric crossover could adopt the Mach E name, but it’s not certain at this point as the automaker is also working on an electrified Mustang.

Regardless of what the model is called, it is being developed by Team Edison which is focused exclusively on electrified vehicles. The crossover will be launched next year and be offered in a number of different markets including Asia, Europe and the United States. The EV will be built in Mexico and Ford has repeatedly said it will have an EPA-estimated range of at least 300 miles (483 km).

The upcoming crossover is one of at least 16 electric vehicles that that Ford intends to launch by 2023. The model will eventually be joined by an electric F-150 and a vehicle based on Rivian’s flexible skateboard platform.
