2020 Mitsubishi ASX Detailed For UK Market, Sales Kick Off In September

Mitsubishi has announced the range details of the updated ASX – sold as the Outlander Sport in the U.S. – for the UK market, where it’ll hit showrooms in September.

The Japanese compact SUV, which first went on sale back in 2009, went through one more facelift that brings it in line with Mitsubishi’s latest models, such as the Eclipse Cross.

The redesign includes new sheet metal from the windscreen forward, giving the 2020 ASX the company’s latest ‘Dynamic Shield’ front fascia, new 18-inch alloy wheels and a refreshed rear end with new LED taillights.

The changes are less dramatic inside, where you get piano black detailing, redesigned HVAC controls and a larger, eight-inch infotainment system that now includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as DAB radio.

One of the biggest changes in Mitsubishi’s third global best-seller is the adoption of a new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine, which is the only option in the range. The new powertrain produces 147 HP (150 PS) and 195 Nm (143 lb-ft) of torque and replaces the previous model’s 113 HP 1.6-liter.

The 2020 ASX will be available in FWD and AWD versions, with the latter being available with a CVT transmission as an option. Front-wheel drive variants of the Mitsubishi ASX need 10.2 seconds for the 0-62mph (100km/h), while the AWD with the CVT require an extra 2 seconds. Top speed in all versions is 118 mph (190 km/h).

The new Mitsubishi ASX also comes with an enhanced range of driver assistance systems, including Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Customers will get to choose between two trim levels, Design and Dynamic, with pricing to be announced closer to the SUV’s launch date.

This car came out in 2010 and till date only has facelifts.
Like the Lancer they trying to squeeze every ounce left.
    Its dated and shows inside.

  • Janar Siniväli

Dear Mitsubishi designers. Just let the guy who designed the front, design the rest of the car as well.

A car does not look fresh if you just make some things weird (rear lights). Details have changed over the years but classic cool proportions have remained the same. Just go back to 1997 Euro-Galant and see what you did then. Do it again.

    • Matt

Not enough in the budget to re-design the whole car, hence why it’s just another facelift.

      • Janar Siniväli

It is like in the soviet union – time after time new concept cars were introduced to illustrate the glory of the car industry. After years of development they ended up just changing the grille and rear lights of the present model.

      • StrangerGP

Yeah sadly it just shows how poor their financial condition is. It’s a goddamn crossover, not some model from a niche segment.

    • Dennis Scipio

They didn’t give the car a full redesign because they ‘re waiting for better technologis from th Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance. There’s always room for improvement, I guess.

      • ThatGuy

Correct Dennis S. but something came to mind, PSA bought Opel/Vauxhall and they have already put out new cars and facelifts with controls and engines. Mitsubishi are dragging their heels here and i can cost them big if not careful.

    N/a 2-liter … Nice IF IT WAS 2008…

  • YUDHA BAGASKARA

    who will buy this thing?

  • erly5

Surely has to be the final facelift for the ASX, even though it may well be the best iteration so far.

  • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

This needed to be a brand new model 5 years ago.

Refreshes aren’t helping this, and this most recent one is hideous. This vehicle is thoroughly uncompetitive on nearly every single level.

    • The-Fez

And yet people still buy them. Why? I have no idea. Literally every other vehicle in this segment is better.

  • no25

This is the Outlander Sport in the States and it came out a few years before the actual Outlander came out. Now that actual Outlander is due for a redesign and this is still being facelifted AGAIN. smh, Mitsubishi. This is why you’re going down the crapper.

  • john1168

This looks good. Mitsubishi has had some odd looking designs lately but this is an improvement

  • Nick099

Beta boys and girls will love this under-powered mouse wagon.

  • Alduin

Lipstick on a pig. Can’t hide the fact that it’s still an outdated turd. Come on Mitsubishi this is half baked and pathetic.
