Bugatti took to social media to post a short and soundless video that looks back to its roots. That’s understandable, given that, this year, the carmaker celebrates its 110th birthday. But could it be more than meets the eye?

Perhaps – and here’s why. Normally, the clip would have gone by unnoticed but, as it happens, Tim Bravo, Bugatti’s chief of communications, has already confirmed to us that they will stage a premiere at the 2019 Monterey Car Week.

Mr. Bravo wouldn’t go into specifics – but that’s hardly surprising. With the event scheduled for next month, we won’t have to wait long to find out if the video has anything to do with the announcement; if it does, then more teasers will be released in the coming weeks, with a throwback to Bugatti’s first years.

According to a report that surfaced last month, the company’s surprise will be a limited edition hypercar. The model will follow in the footsteps of the Chiron Sport, Chiron 110 Ans, Divo and one-off La Voiture Noire, and is expected to have a price tag exceeding the $5 million mark which, along with the limited production run, will ensure exclusivity and boost its appeal.

It’s impossible to place our finger on what it will be, but a track-focused hypercar, Chiron Roadster and Chiron Super Sport have all been considered as prime candidates. Which will it be? We’d put our money on the Super Sport – figuratively speaking, of course, unless we discover we have a rich uncle we knew nothing about who’d like us to be his sole heirs…
