A motorist in Rockdale County, Georgia doused a would-be thief in gasoline to scare him away after trying to steal a white Dodge Challenger.

WSB TV Atlanta reports that earlier this month, security cameras captured the moment a silver Dodge Charger dropped off a mystery man at a Conyers BP gas station on Sigman Road.

Security footage shows the man sneaking up to a white Dodge Challenger owned by a woman filling up. The would-be thief managed to get into the driver’s seat without the woman noticing – but once she did, she sprung into action, pulling out the gas pump from the car and dousing him in fuel.

“It was like a movie. I didn’t realize it was actually happening,” a witness told local media. “My son told me, he said, ‘Dad, I think he’s trying to steal the car,’ and I was looking, and I heard the car revving up and the next thing I know, he jumped out of the car and he started running.”

Police state that the man ran from the scene covered in gasoline and got back into the same car that dropped him off. Authorities believe the man, as well as the driver of the Charger, have likely stolen cars in this way in the past and are calling on the public to help identify them.

“This is definitely not the first time they’ve done this. I’m pretty sure they’ll be attempting it again,” Deputy Lee Thomas said.
