New Suzuki Jimny Looks Just As Good As A Five-Door

The reception to the latest-generation Suzuki Jimny has been hugely positive and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the car manufacturer decided to cash-in on the interest for the tiny off-roader by offering a selection of different body types. These two renderings preview a five-door Jimny.

Created for Russian publication Auto Mail by Nikita Chuyko, the Jimny rendered features the same bright shade of yellow/green paint which the three-door model launched with but obviously adds a pair of extra doors.

Consumers appear won over by the boxy, Mercedes-Benz G-Class-like shape of the new Suzuki Jimny and these renderings show that the design translates perfectly for a five-door variant. Will such a model become a reality? It’s possible.

At the start of this year during the Tokyo Auto Salon, Suzuki showcased a one-off Jimny-based pickup truck. Unsurprisingly, people loved it, particularly those in Australia. Which Car reports that Suzuki Australia was swiftly inundated with for demands for a Jimny pickup and a larger five-door model. The car manufacturer is confident there would be demand for both models.

“If the name starts with ‘Jimny’, we’ll sell it,” Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota said at the time. “A five-door would broaden the range of customers beyond just the thrill-seekers, the adventure seekers and the young drivers who just want the cutest 4×4 on the block. It would really broaden our demographic.”

They’d certainly sell more if they had a five door version….

  • Loquacious Borborygmus

I think it’d eat into Vitara sales.
I’ll say they won’t do it.

    • Dino Brusco

I think they are very different cars. Vitara (at least where I live) is more of a neat urban suv rather than something you plan to use outdoor. Look is also very different

it would be foolish not to produce the 5 door. Maybe they should think about a 4 door pickup. Adding these two body configurations was a boon for the Jeep Wrangler. I think they would do well in the US too!

  • charlotteharry57

Now, this makes a LOT more sense than the tiny 2-door, as far as it coming to the US. That’s IF this version does better in crash tests. It should, hopefully. Not so sure about a pickup version, though. Let’s see if the rumored Ford Courier does well, first. I’m afraid that pickup buyers, for the most part, are hooked on ultra-luxury.

Makes a huge amount of sense to expand the Jimny line up with a 5 door and a pick-up like this. It’s rare for a new model to generate such high praise across the board, also rare is that its extension to a 5 door hasn’t lost the charm of the original in this render.

    • Netsphere

its so call to meet kei car requirements, i doubt they will do a 5 door unless they plan to reenter US market which will not happen anytime soon.

      • jfalckt

True, though only one version meets Japanese kei car requirements (being narrower as it loses the extended wheel arches), but currently demand internationally is outstripping supply, with or without the US market and I’m sure that demand will continue to be strong for a long time, surely Suzuki would do well capitalize on its success by expending the Jimny range.

        • Netsphere

lets hope so, i would love to see suzuki back

It actually looks better than the 2 door

This is one sexy looking beast!

It’s funny how Suzuki finally releases a car that would most likely sell somewhat decently in the states; yet they pulled out of this market.

  • Toyota, seriously, talk Suzuki into getting this thing over here!!!

  • Definitely needs to happen, Toyota should partner with Suzuki and give it a 4 cylinder turbo.
Would get one in Silver for sure.

    • Yobobjm

Suzuki already has a 1.4 turbo that I’m pretty sure would fit. Nothing ridiculous, but it does have significantly more power and torque than the stock 1.5L

    • Bash

I was just thinking about exactly the same, silver or black.

    • William rowe

they don’t need toyota. They should use their own motorcycle dealers and let people order them.. doing online orders only would make it more easy for one of their motorcycle dealers to handle it, in time if the jimny proved to be a massive hit like say the jeep wrangler, they might attract dealers willing to invest back in them if the numbers are there. They would be stupid to let toyota gain all the good press..If they did partner with a manufacturer to come back to the states, the best choice would be jeep

  • Dino Brusco

I like it. Actually they could even make it within 4m or so, thus maintaining compactness.

  • Ary Wisesa

Definitely a seller. I will consider myself as huge fan too… 🙂

  • William rowe

Sad thing is if suzuki had released this before they left the states, it would have saved them here. Maybe they should try to come back though their motorcycle dealers with just the jimny

  • WalthamDan

That would have created the right buzz Suzuki needed to be successful in the US.

  • daniel conway

Sell them in the USA and I want a two door!

  • Bikie Wright

Put the swift gti engine in the five door with manual transmission…

  • Ary Wisesa

Uhmmm…., I think I have to wait a little longer until the 5-doors variant comes out. With two extra doors and longer body, it is definitely a big YES for me. The 3-doors variant is simply too small and offers less practicality. Definitely I’ll wait. 🙂
