Fiat USA has announced details about the 2020 124 Spider lineup and, as you would expect, there are no dramatic changes.

Quite the contrary, the most significant update for the new model year is the introduction of a new “Scorpion Sting” Appearance Group available for $395 on the 124 Spider Abarth model. The option brings a hood decal featuring the iconic Abarth scorpion and side stripes in Rosso Red.

The Rosso-red scorpion silhouette hood decal is reminiscent of the legendary Abarth badge and a nod to company founder Karl Abarth, whose astrological sign was Scorpio. The Rosso red side stripes also feature the iconic scorpion and run the length of the roadster’s body.

You could say that the “Scorpion Sting” Appearance Group is Fiat USA’s way of paying tribute to Abarth’s 70th anniversary this year but the truth is such an important milestone would have deserved more attention from Fiat, especially since the carmaker itself turns 120 in 2019.

You know, something like a power upgrade or at least a more aggressive body kit. Well, the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine continues to deliver 164 hp in the Abarth and 160 hp in the base model.

The Fiat 124 Spider continues to offer three trim levels (Classica, Lusso, and Abarth), with a starting MSRP for the base model of $25,390 (excluding $1,495 destination). That’s $50 lower than the equivalent 2019 model, although the Lusso is now $100 more expensive at $28,145 (always excluding $1,495 destination).

The price of the 2020 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth is listed as “just under $30,000” while the Urbana Edition introduced earlier this year is missing completely from Fiat’s press release.
