2020 Fit / Jazz To Debut In Tokyo Alongside JDM Honda e And Accord

Honda has announced that the all-new Fit subcompact hatchback will make its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show next month.

The automaker did not reveal too many details about the fourth-generation Fit, which will continue to be sold as the Jazz in Europe, although it did say that it will continue to feature the company’s original center-tank layout and a versatile seating arrangement (a reference to the Magic Seat).

Additionally, the hybrid model will feature a two-motor system that’s even more compact than the previous one, despite packing one extra motor. Honda also says that the new model will not compromise “ the outstanding usability of the current Fit” and “will ensure occupant comfort and make their daily lives even more enjoyable.”

That’s all Honda is willing to disclose about the 2020 Fit. Nevertheless, we already know that the 1.5-liter hybrid system will be shared with the Honda Insight, in which it puts out 151 HP and 197 lb-ft (267 Nm) of torque. The hybrid model has been recently confirmed as the only option available in Europe when the next-generation Fit arrives there as the Jazz.

Styling-wise, the 2020 Fit will be an evolution of the current model, albeit with a slightly sportier appearance. There are also rumors about Honda offering a pseudo-crossover variant with a higher ground clearance and plastic body cladding later on. Inside, expect a more digitalized dashboard, with a new infotainment system featuring a big central touchscreen and more driver assist features as standard.

Besides the new Fit, Honda’s stand at the Tokyo Motor Show will also feature the Japanese versions of the e electric supermini as well as the Accord sedan currently sold in North America, which will go on sale in Japan in early 2020 exclusively as a hybrid. Finally, the automaker will also unveil a refreshed Freed MPV that will launch in the Japanese market on October 18.
