2021 VW T7 Shows Its New Face In Fresh Spy Photos

Volkswagen fans are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the modern-day Mircobus, but that isn’t the only van the company is working on. Far from it, as spy photographers have snapped new pictures of the seventh-generation Transporter.

Known as the T7, the redesigned van has an evolutionary design but adopts a flatter and more rounded hood. The streamlined design continues further down, where we can also see a prominent Volkswagen logo and slimmer headlights.

The massive grille of the T6.1 has been jettisoned in favor of a more compact design that can be discerned even under the heavy camouflage. Additional details are hard to make out, but there’s a slender air intake beneath the brand’s logo.

Moving further back, the van has a boxy design that is instantly recognizable. However, there are a handful of changes including new door mirrors and a more pronounced character line. The roof also slopes to the rear end where meets a large spoiler. Speaking of the rear, the model has a more shapely tailgate and what appears to be horizontal taillights as well as a redesigned, yet still evolutionary, bumper.

Little else is known about the T7 at this point, but it’s expected to be offered with an assortment of diesel engines. There could also be a plug-in hybrid variant and possibly an electric option. The latter remains unconfirmed, but ABT already introduced its e-Transporter at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and VW is betting big on electrification, so we wouldn’t bet against an all-electric T7 popping up later.

I think those fans have all died of old age waiting for this thing to come out.

Is this the one that supposed to replace the ever-charming old VW microbus?
If so, what a poor job. This looks like nothing more than a corporate, restrained design and not bold or innovating or even charming whatsoever. Yes, I can tell that even with the “camo” all over it.

The Microbus replacement will be the I.D Buzz EV, not this.

    True, but improved passenger safety.

The longer nose is required mostly for pedestrian safety nowadays (the T6 could keep the stubby nose as it was a T5 facelift, so not all new thus not required to meet the pedestrian laws, pretty much why Fiat keeps the 500 around as a new model would require a longer and higher front end, just as the Mini)

A window “inside” the A-pillar, as the I.D.Buzz showed, is coming too according to the photos. Kind of an enlarged Citroën Grand Picasso this.
