Chevy Equinox Driver Makes Illegal U-Turn On Railway, Gets Hit By Oncoming Train

No matter how well signaled a road is, you can always count on some drivers to do things that are really baffling.

The following dashcam video illustrates how not paying attention (or, worse, being reckless) while driving can have severe consequences, both for the offender and others as well.

In this particular case, we see several cars (including the cammer) waiting at a traffic light in St. Paul, Minnesota, for a train to pass. As the train approaches the intersection, the driver of a previous-generation Chevrolet Equinox traveling in the same direction suddenly turns left, right in front of the train!

Unavoidably, the SUV got hit violently and was sent into a 360-degree spin before coming to a halt. Fortunately for the driver, the impact was in the area of the left rear quarter panel. We don’t know how badly he was hurt, so here’s hoping he only got away with minor injuries. Let’s also hope there were no passengers in the back, because that’s the last place anyone would wanna be in a crash like this.

While there is absolutely no doubt regarding who is to blame for this accident (hint: not the train…), the question remains how can something like this happen. Not only did the SUV driver break the law by attempting a U-turn where that maneuver is not allowed, but he also defied common sense as well as self-preservation instincts. After all, who in their right mind crosses a railway when there’s a red light on and everyone else has stopped waiting for the train to pass?

    Did the train get damaged?

“After all, who in their right mind crosses a railway when there’s a red light on and everyone else has stopped waiting for the train to pass?” …Dumb people who don’t THINK through their actions, that’s who. And they are absolutely everywhere, by the millions. This is why driverless cars will probably become the norm rather than the exception one day.

      Unfortunately it’s like this everywhere.

We can call this the natural selection.

Can it really be classed as on-coming if it hit car from behind??!!

  • Harry_Wild

It is only a light rail commuter train! Not a real locomotive.

  • Only in Russia. No wait.

      Its Minnesota.

“She” probably forgot that she was driving along side the train, (which was on her left and going in the same direction) right before “she” made the left turn into it’s path.

That driver forgot the brain at home!
