Driver And Passenger Mistake Tesla Model 3 For Their…Hyundai

To car fans like ourselves, the Tesla Model 3 looks quite distinct from any other car on the market but evidently, not everyone is so familiar with the looks of certain cars, not even their own.

The Tesla Model 3’s Sentry mode has captured some pretty interesting footage in recent months and this clip is one of the best. It shows a couple mistaking a white Model 3 for their white Hyundai and actually trying to open the doors of the electric sedan.

The man and woman can be seen approaching the car engaged in a conversation and clearly rather distracted. As the man talks to his partner, he reaches down to open the car’s door only to find that unlike a Hyundai, the Model 3 has handles that sit flush with the door. He fumbles around trying to find the door handle and even makes sure the car is unlocked before trying once again to reach for the non-existent door handle. It is at this moment it dawned on him; this wasn’t his Hyundai.

Over on the other side of the car, the Tesla’s camera caught the female passenger doing the same thing and once again discovering that there was no door handle. She also soon realizes her mistake and can be seen walking over to the couple’s Hyundai parked one space over clearly embarrassed by the mistake.

We suppose it could be a complement to Hyundai that some owners can’t spot the difference between the South Korean automaker’s vehicles and a Tesla but it simply seems the couple were a little distracted. Here’s hoping the male driver is a little more attentive while behind the wheel.

That moment you mistake a Model 3 for your Hyundai from r/teslamotors

    wishful thinking. nice try Hyundai.

  • robotlogic

Mistaking an $80K car for a $9K crapbox, this is how you know they are both 100% NOT car people.

    • Arthur

Buddy when was the last time you checked car prices? Not even the highest specced Model 3 is $80K and last I check there are no $9K Hyundai’s but these two clearly are in their own world, they would make great Walking Dead zombies that’s for sure.

    • Jason Miller

Speaking of “not a car person”. Where are you getting those prices?

      • robotlogic

A used 3 year old model X and a Used 3 year old CrapBox like yours.

  • Stephen G

Let’s hope they pay more attention while driving than they do while walking.

    “HA HA”

  • Mr. EP9

    They need their eyes checked.

  • MRPRCAT

Haha! This makes sense to me. I’ve always thought for casual observers, the Model 3 looked like an older Mazda 3, and can see how it’s size and shape could be viewed as similar to the Hyundai Elantra. It’s one reason I think it’s so popular – it doesn’t look polarizing. I don’t think it looks very premium, but do believe it was smart to make it ‘normal’ to invite more adoption for electric cars.

    Should’ve gone to Specsavers😂

Caren T. Husiast, that is funny.

      • Carenthusiast

I could reply saying what kinda name is And Rewthe? Lol but I’m not here to offend anyone so let’s agree that you are a car guy and I’m a car enthusiast! Simples😂

  • Jason Panamera

  • SMARTPHONES SHOW US HOW STUPID HUMANS CAN BE.

  • brn

I’ll take any Tesla or any Hyundai, but I agree. The Model 3 does not look good in white. Looks like a poorly dated ‘future car’ from the 90’s.

Btw: I found the video entertaining. We all do stupid stuff.

  • jfalckt

I’m not necessarily on their side but it only occurred to me recently that the model 3 was launched here in Norway; it was a very long build up to launch and by the time the thing was actually launched it was very underwhelming and I mistook them all for model S’s. I’m not proud of this, but it is the truth.

  • Andrewthecarguy

Side profile and same color, same basic location…yeah if you are not a car guy and not paying attention, this could totally happen
