Fire Truck Rolls During School Demonstration While Making Sharp Turn

A demonstration from fire authorities for a school in Vác, Hungary has gone horribly wrong.

Fire crews lit a car on fire and were set to show the fire truck and firefighters in action dousing the flames.

As you can see in the footage, however, when the fire truck came speeding towards the burning car, it made an overly-ambitiously sharp turn and went up on two wheels. The driver is believed to have over-corrected ,and as the truck came slamming back down, it rolled over onto its side.

Vaci Diary Online reports that there were five fighters inside the truck when it crashed. They were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries and were later released.

A crane had to be called up to lift the truck back onto its wheels and tow it away. It suffered a significant amount of damage, with much of the side it rolled onto being severely dented and the windshield smashed, but it does appear to be repairable and hopefully won’t be out of service for too long.

Local police say they are investigating the crash to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.

Perhaps the most important thing is that none of the school children watching the demonstration were injured in the incident. If the truck had teetered up on two wheels and flipped over while pointing in the direction of spectators, things could have turned tragic.

I went with my Grandfather on his milk pickup route in an old milk tanker once. It looked like a large water truck and was used to take milk from all the small area dairy farms to the big processing plant. It’s holding tank had no baffles and when the tank was about half full the milk would slosh from side to side after cornering, and self induced oscillation would slowly make it worst on every corner, eventually it would get so bad the truck felt like it would flip if you didn’t immediately hit the brakes. Even after a full stop we had to wait for the milk to stop moving before we could proceed. Try driving mountains roads while the milk is sloshing and tipping the truck from side to side. I never went in that truck again.
