Mercedes-Maybach SUV To Launch In November With Its Own Special Scent

Mercedes-Benz has revealed that its long-awaited Maybach SUV will be unveiled in November.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS was previewed by the Ultimate Luxury Concept last year, which had a unique shape that was a mix between a sedan and a more traditional SUV. However, recent spy shots of prototypes indicate that the production car will be more similar in shape to the regular GLS, albeit outfitted with a host of distinctive parts both inside and outside.

In a press release detailing the Maybach brand, the German car manufacturer confirmed that the Maybach GLS will feature many of the same luxurious components as the S-Class. These will include a high-end Burmester 3D surround sound system, and while we don’t yet know exact details about it, the one in the Maybach S-Class features no less than 27 speakers, 24 separate amplifier channels and a total output of 1590 watts. Expect similar or identical specs in the GLS.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz says it has given the Maybach GLS “its own signature fragrance suited to the SUV-specific interior and traveling experience”. “The white osmanthus blossom, floral and light, is rounded off by a gentle leather note and spicy tea. This elegant blend is on a bed of natural greenery,” the press release continues – and that sure is some way to describe the aroma of a plush SUV.

One in seven new S-Class models sold are Maybachs, and Merc will hope to achieve the same feat with the GLS. According to reports, the luxury SUV could be offered with both a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 and a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12.

As a 2007 GL320 CDI 4Matic owner, I am very interested in the new GLS, but not so much a Maybach variant. The scent aspect is quite interesting, and while many may find it gimmicky, I think it adds a touch of luxury and individualization to the vehicle.

By adding Bentley badge to Touareg is not converting it to Bentayga, same with X7 and Cullinan, its time to understand that Mercedes….

It’s time to understand that this is not Maybach, it’s Mercedes-Maybach. It’s like a top trim level.
