Are You The 2020 BMW M3?

Spy photographers have snapped the 2020 BMW M3 on numerous occasions, but the model has apparently been caught undisguised on the assembly line.

The image was posted on Facebook earlier today and it shows the rear end of a car which is claimed to be the upcoming M3. While nothing is official, the sedan is certainly more aggressive than the M340i.

As you can see, the model features aggressive black side skirts and that is theme is continued on the rear bumper as there’s black trim which surrounds a sporty diffuser. The latter component is body-colored and has cut outs for a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

There isn’t much else to see, but the car has shadowline trim and a larger rear spoiler. We can also get a glimpse of bulging rear fenders and lightweight alloy wheels.

The company hasn’t said much about the upcoming model, but BMW M boss Markus Flasch has confirmed the sedan will use the same 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine as the X3 M and X4 M. He also said the base model will have 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS), while the Competition variant will be rated at 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS).

At the time, Flasch confirmed the car will be equipped with an all-wheel drive system that is “very similar” to the one used in the M5. As a result, the system will likely be defeatable so owners can enjoy a proper rear-wheel drive burnout.

Rumors have also indicated there will be a so-called ‘Pure’ variant with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. That remains to be seen, but Flasch could have hinted at this when he said “We will also do rear-wheel drive cars, purer ones too and a manual stick shift.”

Oh hello G80 M3! What do you think?

In relation to how big and wide these are now, I wonder why the exhaust tips are so close together?

otherwise its looking good so far, specs sound impressive. I just wonder will it be lighter than the current gen, and if so by how much?

    • Matt

The exhausts have always been close to together on the M3, there is very little room behind those wide rear wheels, rear crash structure and suspension/diff to route the exhausts anywhere else. Under car aerodynamics also play a role in where engineers position the exhausts.

    • Nastinupe1911

I would expect it to be lighter, that’s the trend, as to how much, I would expect them to shave about 75 – 100 lbs off the previous generation’s dry weight.

  • GobbleUp

    Not exciting at all.

  • AxelMD

    Audi RS3 It’s that you?

  • Zandit75

Not sure about the colour coded diffuser. Doesn’t look right.

    • Ben

I’m sure there will be a carbon fiber option

  • MarkoS

    OMG the Controversy!

  • Xandao

The colour diffuser is intended so they can sell an optional carbon fiber difuser to solve the problem. 10/10 will pay for it.

    • songoku64

They will probably have black or silver coloured as well.

  • Ben

    That is a sizable butt!

  • Honda NSX-R

That diffuser is worse than the big kidney grilles smh

Fake. m design mirror, vertical grill, bumper and new headlamps different than this

    • This is not it, the M3 always gets the 4 series/M4 front. This is a 3 series with an M5 bumper photoshoped.

    • GreenApple18r

Fake but this is how it should have looked

  • Front Brush

    didn’t install the diffuser yet?

  • Keven44977

I mean at least the tailpipes seam real…

  • Arct1c

    no this is patrick

  • Bo Hanan

    Backed into a guard rail.

  • SteersUright

No way this is it. Looks too aftermarket.

  • Matteo Tommasi

    I hope it’s not

  • Dennis James

Knowing BMW’s recent design track record, I am 100% sure it is the real car. At this point you can’t expect an OEM-worthy, cohesive, flowing design from BMW.

  • uS’gedlemba

Must be a joke right? No not the photo of 3 series with a trashy aftermarket bumper in a dirty chop-shop…I mean the whole article…surely it’s a prank.

  • Case Mo

I like the Giulia Quadrifoglio boot spoiler…lol
