Brabham has confirmed that the BT62 will make its racing debut in early November and also announced its driver line-up.

Piloting the hypercar during its first competitive outing will be the man behind the company, David Brabham. Not only did Brabham launch the automaker, but he is also an extremely successful race car driver, having claimed multiple sports car world championships and no less than three class victories and one outright win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Joining him will be Will Powell, who has previous experience racing GT and sports prototypes around the world.

“It is fitting that the Brabham marque returns to racing after a 27-year absence with David Brabham behind the wheel. David’s speed, professionalism and composure will provide a great base for our motorsport debut at Brands Hatch, a track that saw so much success for Brabham in the past,” Brabham Automotive chief executive Dan Marks said.

The car will compete in a two-hour Britcar Endurance Championship meeting at Brands Hatch circuit on 9-10 November 2019. This circuit holds a special place in Brabham history as Sir Jack Brabham claimed his third F1 World Driver’s Championship at the track in 1966. Nelson Piquet also won at Brands Hatch for the Brabham team during the 1983 European Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Powering the Brabham BT62 is a naturally-aspirated 5.4-liter V8 with 700 HP, while the car weighs just 972 kg dry (2142 lbs) and produces 1200 kg (2645 lbs) of downforce. Brabham wants to ultimately compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022, but is still undecided whether it will enter the BT62 in the GTE or the new Hypercar class.
