By unveiling the hybrid version of the Kona earlier this year, Hyundai has enriched its electrified vehicle game. Offered alongside the battery-electric and ICE-powered versions of the small SUV, it goes against the Toyota C-HR Hybrid, providing a more than decent driving experience, with a nice ride and steering feedback.
The Kona Hybrid combines a 1.6-liter petrol engine and an electric motor that work together to deliver 141 PS (139 hp / 104 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels. The powertrain is connected to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that gets charged on the go.
The SE version can sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.2 seconds, whereas the Premium and Premium SE in 11.6, while top speed is identical in all three, at 185 km/h (115 mph).

Recognizing the Kona Hybrid is going to be a challenge, as the Korean automaker has limited the changes to the Blue Lagoon exterior launch color, as well as the exclusive 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior color pack sports its own twist, and those choosing the upmarket versions will enjoy a 10.25-inch split touchscreen display instead of the base model’s 7-inch.
Owners will be able to remotely lock and unlock the doors, search for empty parking spaces and do other things using the dedicated smartphone app that comes exclusively with the larger display. Leather upholstery, head-up display, LED taillights, automatic emergency braking and others are limited to the top-of-the-line trim level though.
