Jay Leno Gets A Tour, And A Drive, Of The 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8

Oftentimes, some weird and wacky creations get featured on Jay Leno’s Garage, and most of them make for interesting viewing. This time, though, the comedian, TV-host and avid car fan had the opportunity to drive something more mainstream: the 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 – that is, if you can call anything that comes out of Crew “ordinary”.

Bentley introduced its new family of V8-powered Continental models in the United States earlier this year. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivers a healthy 542 HP and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque, which is enough to propel the Coupe to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds and the Convertible to the same mark in 4.0 seconds. Both top out at 198 mph (318 km/h).

Of course, a car like the Continental GT is about much more than performance; it also needs to be comfortable and a beautiful place to spend time in. The British car manufacturer has pulled out all the stops here, equipping the grand tourer with twenty-way adjustable leather seats up front and a 10-speaker, 650-watt Bentley Audio system as standard. Also found within is an optional Bentley Rotating Display with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Customers have four color split options available for the cabin and can customize many elements, including the contrast stitching and piping.

For this video, Leno is joined by Bentley’s Western Regional Director Michael Heywood and is given a detailed tour of the car before he takes it out onto the streets of Los Angeles. And while Bentleys may not appeal to everyone, it’s hard to deny that the Continental GT V8 definitely exudes class and sophistication.

Take the Challenger Hellcat. Change the front and rear. Tell those who created the RAM Longhorn interior to completely update the interior. Add more sound insulation and a quieter exhaust. Call it the ‘Chrysler Imperial’ and make a ton of money. Come on FCA. Wake up!

    • db

I don’t think it even needs that much horsepower.
A “paltry” 500 horse would do and I’d have that car in my garage as fast as FCA could ship me one.

      • Craig

To make it really stand out – it needs at least 600 hp.

        • db

I get what you’re saying but that would probably make it out of reach for most of the “average” folks.

          • Nastinupe1911

            @craig, great idea. A $60,000 Luxury Coupe.

          • Craig

The Challenger Hellcat Widebody starts as $66,945 in the US. I see no reason the new Imperial SC couldn’t go for $69,945. It’s not meant for ‘average’ folks anymore than then Challenger Hellcat is.

    • Harry_Wild

Living in the Northern climates, a Challenger Hellcats are not popular in the winter months; no AWD for snow, icy roads, rainy conditions and steering conditions!

      • Craig

They can’t build them fast enough – so somebody likes them! But then… why not make the Imperial a 600 hp AWD luxury coupe!

    • Stephen G

From the 70’s thru to 90’s that would be a no brainer (maybe not the Imperial moniker). But it seems automakers have gotten away from doing this. If GM could shut down the Camaro based Buick Avista there is probably no hope for a Challenger based “Imperial”.

ALARM ALARM! Moving the engine as forward as possible. ALARM!

  • Kagan

Why do you put the calipers in front and not behind the wheel!

  • Enter Ranting

Stop with the light pipes on the dashboard! It’s cheesy!
