The McLaren 600LT is quite the little animal and capable of some truly remarkable lap times. Just how remarkable? Well, on certain tracks, it appears as though it can give the almighty McLaren P1 a run for its money.

Evo Magazine recently had the opportunity to drive the 600LT around the Anglesey circuit and were left seriously impressed with what the car is capable of.

First, the specs. Powering the McLaren 600LT is the car manufacturer’s familiar 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumping out 592 hp and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) of torque. McLaren quotes a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of a mere 2.8 seconds.

Unleashed around Anglesey, the 600LT lapped the circuit in 1:12.4. That’s seriously fast. In fact, Evo Magazine set times of a 1:12.4 and 1:12.6 in a Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 respectively just a few short years ago. If that isn’t progress, we don’t know what is.

The 600LT isn’t the fastest car around the circuit, however. Among the cars that are quicker than it includes the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a 1:12.0, the McLaren 720S with a 1:11.5, and the Ferrari 488 Pista with a 1:10.8. However, all of those vehicles compete in a class above the 600LT and are not rivals to the range-topping Sports Series model.

What makes us particularly excited by the 600LTs’s time is the fact that McLaren’s family will soon receive a new ‘LT’ badged variant in the form of a 720S-based model. With some track-focused modifications, aerodynamic changes, some weight-saving measures, and more power, we think it could be much faster than even the Ferrari 488 Pista.
