The 2020 Corvette C8 went into production last month and the first model has arrived at Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sporting VIN #001, the car has a black exterior with black wheels which are contrasted by red brake calipers. The model is a Corvette Stingray 3LT which is equipped with the Z51 Performance Package, a performance data recorder and GT2 seats.

Rick Hendrick bought the car at auction for $3 (£2.3 / €2.6) million and it will now be on display at the dealership for fans to admire. The model will eventually join a collection of over 200 rare cars at the Hendrick Heritage Center.

The first production C8 will be in good company as Hendrick’s collection includes 120 other Corvettes including the first C4 ZR1 as well as the first Corvettes from 1955, 1956 and 1957. He also owns the first C7 Corvette Stingray, Z06 and ZR1.

While Hendrick won’t drive the car, all of the money raised from the auction will benefit the Detroit Children’s Fund which aims to improve education in the Motor City.

Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet didn’t just get the first Corvette either as videos show a number of different C8s being unloaded from the truck. Among them were white and red models with black accents. Of course, they were likely sold months ago.

The Corvette C8, as you’re undoubtedly aware, features a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8 that produces up to 495 hp (369 kW / 502 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which enables the car to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and run the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds at 121 mph (195 km/h) when equipped with optional Z51 Performance Package.

The model starts at $59,995 and was named the North American Car of the Year back in January.
