Mazda has announced a new special edition MX-5 for the UK market called the R-Sport.

Limited to 150 Convertible units, the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport is based on the Sport trim and brings exclusive exterior and interior upgrades. On the outside, the MX-5 R-Sport features the Polymetal Grey paint, unique 16-inch Rays gunmetal alloys, piano black mirror caps and a grey soft top hood.

The interior is dominated by the burgundy Nappa leather seats with silver stitching, which ensure “the interior has the same bespoke feel as the exterior”, according to Mazda.

The new special edition model is based on the Sport trim powered by the 132 PS (130 HP) 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine. As a result, it comes equipped as standard with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, heated seats and climate control, among other features.

Prices for the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport start from £27,700 and customers can order one now. UK deliveries are expected to begin once the current retail restrictions come to an end.

“I’m delighted that we can offer an exclusive MX-5 Convertible model to our customers. With it joining the rest of the Convertible and RF models in the line-up, we now have a great choice of MX-5s in our updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range,” said Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson.

In addition to the R-Sport, the updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 lineup includes 10 models in the UK: four Convertibles and six RFs. The MX-5 Convertible can be had in SE-L and Sport trims with the 1.5-liter engine or Sport Tech and GT Sport Tech trims with the 2.0-liter unit. The same goes for the MX-5 RF, which adds the option of an automatic transmission for the Sport Tech and GT Sport Tech trims powered by the 184 PS (181 HP) Skyactiv-G 2.0 engine.
