It’s been a year and a half since Cadillac was first spotted testing diesel-powered XT4 prototypes in Europe and now the SUV is ready to launch in the Old Continent.

Cadillac has officially unveiled the 2021 XT4, which will launch in select European markets as of October 10. Two powertrains will be on offer: a 2.0-liter turbo diesel developed in and for Europe and a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit arriving later on. Both meet the tough Euro 6d emission standards.

Marking Cadillac’s entry into a segment where it has never been before (namely subcompact SUV with diesel power), the XT4 features a Europe-exclusive 2.0-liter diesel rated at 172 HP (128 kW / 174 PS) and 381 Nm (281 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 2,750 rpm.

Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, it returns 6.4 l/100 km (36.7 mpg US / 44.1 mpg UK) and emits 167 g/km of CO2, according to WLTP standards. A twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system with disconnecting rear axle is also available on the diesel model.

Later on, the XT4 will offer the choice of a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine making 227 HP (169 kW / 230 PS) at 5,000 rpm and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. A nine-speed automatic transmission is also standard with this engine, as is the AWD system.

Cadillac will offer the XT4 in two exclusively styled and generously equipped special editions: the Launch Edition and the Launch Edition Sport, which are priced at €42,900 ($50,050) and €47,100 ($54,950), respectively, in Germany. Mind you, the base XT4 FWD model starts at €35,800 ($41,830).

The diesel-powered Cadillac XT4 can be recognized by the ‘350D’ badge

All Euro-spec XT4s feature all-LED lighting, 18-inch alloys, power and heated seats, heated steering wheel, power tailgate with hands-free operation, tactile rotary controller for the CUE infotainment system, and more as standard.

On top of that, Launch Edition models feature a surround-vision camera, high-definition rear camera mirror, automatic parking assist for parallel and perpendicular parking, and an 8-inch CUE information and media system with integrated 3D navigation, among other things. The Launch Edition Sport adds adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality and a full-color head-up display.

Standard safety tech across the board includes traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, cross traffic alert, and safety alert seat.
