Ever wondered what’s the most off-road capable school bus in the world? Well, Torsus is here to answer that question with the new Praetorian School Bus.

The new school bus edition of the Torsus Praetorian can carry up to 35 children across the world’s toughest routes, with the interior featuring bespoke seats dressed in a special fabric and a polymer protective coating and fitted with a seat belt suitable for all ages. Optional features include a foldable armrest and hip support bar on the aisle side.

The Czech company is using an upgraded heavy-duty chassis from MAN, together with a 6.9-liter six-cylinder diesel from the same company. This engine puts out 286 HP (290 PS) and 848 lb-ft (1,150 Nm) of torque, which are directed to all four wheels; moreover, there are two locking differentials for when the going gets tough.

“The school bus was one of the first ideas we had, as the Praetorian is a safe and solid vehicle that we know can keep its occupants protected in even the most testing of conditions,” said Torsus CEO Vakhtang Dzhukashvili. “Wherever in the world customers might need a school bus solution for safely and efficiently driving on testing terrain, the Praetorian School Bus is an option that will deliver every time.”

The wheels of the Praetorian School Bus are shod in off-road Michelin tires and the ground clearance is an impressive 340 mm, allowing it to wade through water up to 900mm deep.

Of course, Torsus is offering the Praetorian not just in a school bus format but in a wide range of configurations. These include anything from an empty shell to a transporter for mines and from an evacuation ambulance to a proper expedition vehicle.
