Not long after Hyundai teased the forthcoming 2021 Elantra N, a camouflaged prototype has been filmed testing at Germany’s infamous Nurburgring.
Hyundai’s N division has been on a roll in recent years and only recently launched its third, fully-fledged performance model in the form of the i20 N, following in the footsteps of the i30 N and Veloster N. The Elantra N will further broaden the appeal of the N brand and promises to deliver a sporty sedan that’s heaps of fun to drive, a sight for sore eyes given the inevitable death currently facing many sports sedans.
Throughout the video, we get the chance to hear the Elantra N’s engine and exhaust notes. Although unconfirmed, it is highly likely the car will have the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as other N models. As such, it should be good for 276 hp and 289 lb-ft (392 Nm) of torque with the Performance Package.

In addition, this prototype seems to be equipped with a dual-clutch transmission, likely the same eight-speed unit available with the Veloster N and i30 N. Power will be sent exclusively through the front wheels and there’s a strong possibility that a six-speed manual will also be available, perfect for more traditional driving enthusiasts.
From a visual standpoint, the Elantra N will go one step beyond the Elantra N Line. As such, it will include bespoke front and rear bumpers and this prototype, as well as one recently teased by Hyundai itself, is also rocking a fixed rear spoiler.
The Hyundai Elantra N will likely be unveiled before the end of the year or in early 2021 and hit the U.S. market as a 2022 model.
