Audi has updated the styling and available on-board tech of its SQ2 crossover, which should reach customers at the beginning of 2021 as presales have already started in Germany and other European countries.

Pricing for the 2021 Audi SQ2 kicks off from 45,700 euros ($54,123) in Germany, whereas UK buyers will spend north of £38,700 ($51,000) for the fashionable sub-compact people hauler. Neither the SQ2 nor the Q2 are available in North America.

The 2.0 TFSI engine is the same as before, putting down 296 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque with the aid of a standard seven-speed S tronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. The SQ2 needs just 4.9 seconds in order to hit 62 mph (100 km/h), and will max out at 155 mph (250 km/h).

“For the SQ2 we took the basic template set so successfully by high performance hatchbacks like our S3 Sportback and used it to create a version of our already capable compact SUV that has a great deal to offer fans of both formats,” said Audi UK exec Andrew Doyle. “The carefully considered design and technology updates it receives here as part of the improvement programme for the entire Q2 model line will only increase its appeal further still, as will the installation of the very appealing new Vorsprung model at the head of the range.”

So what’s new?

For starters, the octagonal Singleframe grille is now slightly lower, while the slats in its insert interpret the polygon motif that characterizes the vehicle’s overall design. While LED headlights do come standard, Audi will now offer new Matrix LED units as an optional extra. The SQ2 also comes with LED lights at the rear, paired with Dynamic indicators in high-spec variants.

On the sides, the revised SQ2 features aluminum-look mirror housings, sill inserts, a roof edge spoiler and C-pillar blades. The rear meanwhile sees the pentagonal polygon treatment being carried through into the bumper. Buyers can also opt for an exterior package that adds black styling to the mirror housings, C-pillar blade and tailpipe trims.

As for the interior, the 2021 SQ2 features automatic air conditioning as standard, together with a sport multifunction steering wheel and sports seats. In terms of infotainment tech, the range extends to the Audi virtual cockpit, which can be switched over to a sports view. You also get MMI navigation plus (available with the navigation package).

If you opt for the top of the line infotainment system, you get Audi connect services with LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot, while the Audi smartphone interface, Audi phone box and the Bang & Olufsen sound system are also available.

Last but not least, the safety functions. The SQ2 not only gets Audi’s pre sense front safety system as standard, but also adaptive cruise assist, which is a new addition to its optional gear. Adaptive cruise assist lets the driver give up control to the car as far as accelerating, decelerating and steering within the lane.
