A newly-delivered McLaren Speedtail has been badly damaged after crashing during a track day at Fuji Speedway in Japan.
Details and images about the incident are thin on the ground. However, one image, posted to Instagram by Ken Saito, shows that the British hypercar left a trail of wreckage along the main straight of the circuit. It seems likely that the driver of the car somehow lost control on the damp surface, skidded off into the grass and hit one of the crash barriers.

A second image shared on Instagram provides a closer look at the rear of the vehicle which looks to have avoided damage. However, we can see that some fluids leaked out onto the circuit and that the front end has taken a battering, hence all the parts left on the circuit in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
Evidently, the owner of the Speedtail wasn’t injured in the crash and apparently drove his McLaren Senna for the rest of the track day event.
It is understood that there are just three McLaren Speedtails destined for the Japanese market and this is the only example painted white. Repairing the car will not be cheap and as the crash happened on a track, the owner could be left with a costly bill (unless he had insurance that covered track driving).
McLaren is building just 106 examples of the Speedtail with each starting at around £2.1 million. The car has a three-seater layout just like the iconic F1 and can reach a top speed of 250 mph (403 km/h).
