Volkswagen is finally allowing journalists to check out the 2021 Golf R, so should soon find out what the new generation of the automaker’s über hatchack is like.

However, until that happens, we can take a closer look at the new Golf R in a POV driving video shot at night.

Review: 2020 VW Golf Mk8 GTI – Could It Be The Smart Choice In The Hot Hatch Class?

The clip shows the new Golf R Mk8 hitting its top speed on the German Autobahn. According to Volkswagen, it is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). However, it can be increased to 168 mph (270 km/h) with the R-Performance Package, which also adds the Drift and Special driving modes, a performance rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels.

The all-wheel drive hot hatch is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder which is hooked up to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. The mill produces 315 HP (320 PS / 235 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, for a 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) of 4.7 seconds.

The 2021 Golf R has already launched in the UK, where it has a starting price of £39,270 (equal to $52,525) for the fastest hatchback in Volkswagen’s range. This actually makes it more expensive than the Audi S3 Sportback, BMW M135i and Mercedes-AMG A35, but you can read all about the pricing details here, after watching the following video.
