The 2021 Genesis GV80 has been designated as a Top Safety Pick+ for 2021 by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Joining the GV80 as a Top Safety Pick+ are the 2021 G70 and G90.

Genesis has equipped the GV80 with a plethora of driver assistance and safety technologies, including Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, 10 standard airbags (including a center-side airbag), Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and an all-new platform that includes passenger compartment protection and reinforcement using advanced high strength steel.

“Winning the IIHS TSP+ award for GV80 demonstrates the exceptional safety performance and design of our vehicle,” chief safety officer of Genesis Motor North America Brian Latouf said. “The GV80 body structure was engineered with energy-absorbing front and rear crumple zones and high strength structural load paths to maintain occupant compartment integrity during severe crash impacts. The GV80 structural safety design protects occupants with the seatbelt systems, pre-tensioners, and 10 airbags including a new front-seat center airbag that deploys between the driver and front-seat passenger. We are proud that the GV80 design effectively protects its occupants and performed well in the IIHS tests.”

Crash testing results of the GV80 come just a few weeks after Tiger Woods was involved in a serious accident behind the wheel of the new Genesis SUV.

“This is one of the Institute’s top-rated midsize luxury SUVs,” IIHS spokesman Russ Rader said in an email to USA Today. “The GV80 aced all six IIHS crashworthiness tests.”

Of the roughly 200 vehicles fully tested by IIHS this year, 50 have received the Top Safety Pick+ designation.
