Pro golfer Tiger Woods is in “moderate to critical” condition after an accident that took place early on the morning of Monday, February 22.

According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, Woods had to be removed from a Genesis GV80 through the windshield with the help of the jaws of life. He was then taken to hospital.

The accident took place in Rancho Palos Verde, California, a little after 7:00 AM Pacific time.

In a statement from Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, it was revealed that the golfer underwent surgery on Tuesday afternoon, as a result of the accident. A police source reports that he may have suffered two broken legs, per ESPN.

Woods, 45, was in the area hosting the Genesis Invitational golf tournament, of which this appears to have been a courtesy vehicle. He was not playing at the tournament, though, as he was recovering from a separate back injury.

“I’m sick to my stomach. You know, it hurts to see one of your – now one of my closest friends get in an accident,” Justin Thomas, a pro golfer and friend of Woods’ told ESPN. “Man, I just hope he’s alright. Just worry for his kids, you know. I’m sure they’re struggling.”

According to a tweet from the LA County Sheriff’s department, Woods was the vehicle’s only occupant. Officials have not yet revealed the cause of the crash.

Jay Monahan, PGA Tour commissioner released a statement wishing the famous golfer well.

“On behalf of the PGA Tour and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers,” Monahan said in a statement.
