Saab, the automaker best known for their quirky aircraft-inspired vehicles, made quite a few underrated cars. One of them, the 9-3 Viggen, was designed to compete with cars like the E36 BMW 3-Series, and while it didn’t quite accomplish that, it remains a solid performer.

Listed on Bring a Trailer, this 2000 9-3 Viggen convertible has 83,000 miles on the odometer, which is pretty good considering it’s 21 years old. Moreover, it’s one of only around 20 Viggen convertibles in the US to wear its particular shade of yellow. The car comes with two keys, the original books and papers, and a clean title. It is being sold by the original dealer, who has serviced it since new and recently acquired it after three previous owners.

The exterior is finished in Monte Carlo Yellow with a black soft top and the paintwork appears to be in near-perfect condition. The car features model-exclusive bumper covers and side skirts, as well as a rear spoiler and Viggen fender logos. Sitting behind 17-inch wheels and Nitto Motivo tires lie slotted brake rotors, and the pads were replaced in July 2018 with only 1,000 miles of wear on them.

The interior is finished in charcoal leather and includes power seats, automatic climate control, a CD player, and the Saab Information Display with Night Panel. It also features embossed Viggen logos on the seats as well as the signature Saab center ignition. The perforated leather steering wheel frames a refreshingly uncluttered instrument cluster with gauges for speed, rpm, fuel level, coolant temperature, and boost pressure.

The 9-3 Viggen is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four that delivers 230 hp (233 PS / 171 kW) and 252 lb-ft (342 Nm) of torque, which are sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. As with the rest of the car, the engine bay is in impeccable condition, with no cracking, discoloration, or rust in sight.

Overall, regardless of if you’re a Saab enthusiast or just looking for a car a little different from the norm, this very well maintained 9-3 Viggen seems to be a tempting offer.
