We all know the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is very fast. After all, it is a pickup truck with four-wheel drive and a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 engine. However, surely it can’t keep up with a C8 Corvette Stingray in a straight line – or can it?

To find out, Hennessey Performance brought out its recently-delivered 1500 TRX to the drag strip and lined it up against a new C8 Corvette.

Ram’s official 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) claim for the TRX is 4.5 seconds thanks to its 702 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). By comparison, the 490 hp (495 hp with the Z51 package), 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 of the Corvette Stingray is enough to send it to 60 mph in under 3 seconds with the launch control system enabled. In theory, then, the ‘Vette should easily out-accelerate the Ram.

However, in both of the races held, it was the TRX that launched off the line the best, thanks in no small part to its four-wheel drive system and the fact that the driver of the Corvette didn’t enable the sports car’s launch control system. As the speeds started to increase, though, the Corvette slowly clawed its way back and was able to overtake the TRX.

Hennessey has big plans for the TRX. It is already developing an upgrade package that will include a new supercharger and pulleys as well as new headers, a high-flow exhaust, and an optimized ECU. These changes will lift output to 1,012 hp and 969 lb-ft (1,314 Nm) of torque. Moreover, Hennessey is also working on a 6×6 version of the TRX with Mopar’s 7.0-liter Hellephant V8 crate engine.
