Cupra’s first stand-alone model, the Formentor, is a coupe SUV that promises a sporty driving experience. But can it pass the moose test?
Many vehicles have fallen victim to the extremely challenging maneuver, including the regular versions of the new-gen Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 Sportback, which are based on the same platform as the Cupra.

This makes the Formentor VZ’s attempt to avoid the imaginary obstacle in the middle of the road and then get back in its lane immediately interesting, to say the least. In order to pass the test, cars need to perform the maneuver at 77 km/h (48 mph) or higher.
However, before finding out how Cupra’s coupe SUV performed, let’s talk specs, starting with the official 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) time that takes 4.9 seconds in the VZ, which can max out at 155 mph (250 km/h). It uses a 306 HP (310 PS / 228 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque 2.0-liter four-banger, which is connected to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and 4Drive all-wheel drive.
The VZ is not the top dog in the Formentor range, as that title belongs to the recently unveiled VZ5. This model packs Audi Sport’s 2.5-liter turbo-five, which produces 385 HP (390 PS / 287 kW) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque.
